this was Mark Robinsons and the thoughts on it... http://www.fanfooty.com.au/forum/index.php/topic,34408.0.html
He makes a good point about all the Midfielders winning awards. Maybe the AFL needs to look at making different awards that are easily achieved by DEF, FOLL's and FWD's.
I'll use an obvious one as an example, Presti - Did his job week in and week out to no avail, would have been nice for him to get recognition and a title before he retired :)

The problem is that it will always be a subjective thing. There aren't the natural positions that were obvious even 10 years ago. Quite a few small forwards and defenders will rotate through the midfield and taller flankers will push along the wings. Then you have forward and defenders who play in the ruck.

For example, someone like Burgoyne (not that his current form means we will even be close to AA selection) always get named in the Hawthorn forward line but only plays there on occasion, spending the majority of the game on the ball.

AA used to be about rewarding the best players in each position, however because positions aren't well defined in modern footy, the directive given to the AA selectors should be that of a match committee - put together the best 22 to win a hypothetical match (since we don't have international competition). Otherwise AA just becomes the list of the 21 brownlow runner ups.

Made some changes in there but as hawk said, it is subjective and everybody will see it differently.
