Firstly, I'm not saying I'm doing this, so don't criticise me, I'm giving you some brain food.  Ok, here's the food for thought.

My general rule for trades is injury or upgrades - just like anyone else's.  But, is Swallow to either of these two considered an upgrade? (hear me out, before you say "No, Swallow hasn't earnt you anything")...

Swallow is priced at 160k, and the other two under 100k.  So, already, you are cashing in 60k or 60% of what the minimum I want to receive from my rookie payout.

For example, we get Curnow in.  We pocket roughly 63k, we are already ahead.  But if Curnow averages the same as Swallow for 8-12 games, he will also earn you more money - as his price will rise from 96k instead of Swallow's 160k..  so thats another 60k more when they reach their score average price.

However, IF Curnow averages more than Swallow, not only will he earn the 60k more than Swallow, he will get the extra bit from his higher average.

That is my brain food, and its what has me thinking at the moment.

(Sure, I'm against trading at the start of the year, its a looooong season.  But, after averaging 2150 over the first two rounds, with excellent bench cover, I'm thinking I need to perhaps punt early to reap rewards later.  My smoky hasn't paid off in Astbury, so I'll trade Heppell in for him).. two trades down..  Hmmmm

And to also factor in job security..  Swallow has more than Libba and Curnow.  But I have watched both Carlton games this year and his size and ability has REALLY impressed me.  And Watching GC the other night leaves me thinking they are in for a LONG and inconsistent season.

Bluke

I wouldnt trade Swallow. I'll admit I thought about a similar trade but I think the Suns will be better, their senior players really let them down this week. All of them played below par so we should see some improvement from them as a whole. They may not win alot of games but they should score more points than they did against Carlton. Swallow included.

Interesting. I definitely wouldn't be doing this, but I'm comfortable with the set-up of my team. Might be a good move for others.

I have never traded before price rises before, and this seems to be my first time to even question it.  I think its because the higher priced rookies this year.

I agree Bluke, Swallow will get better as will the senior players, but I don't see him doing heaps more than what he is doing on the weekend.  The GC game sured up that I'm not gonna get Ablett this year I dont think, there just isn't enough support in that team at the moment.  There was glimpses of talent from Dixon and Matera, but on a whole I think they did look like boys v men.

AND, as Big_Cox said on another page, we do get an extra 4 trades, even though each team plays the same 22 matches.

If I burn two, that still gives me two more than regular years, which I have been quite successful..  Once again, this is food for thought.

I’m hearing what you are saying Slap, 1 trade for a potential 120K plus better coverage in those 8-12 weeks it takes him to fatten up!!!

As a bit of a side note, I personally don’t select the higher draft picks to be Cash Cows as there inflated price tags make it much harder to make as much money on. If I do select them its to stay in my side for an extended period for emergency coverage because of their added job security. (I selected Hill 2 years ago and Martin last and didn’t trade them out to very late in the season.)
