This was always a no no, everyone played Chappy in forwards and Goddard in the backs to maximise scores in your midfield, but I think this year is different with byes and with all the MPP players out there especially back/mid and forw/mid.

Example mid line going strong mids: Swan, Montag, Boyd, Gaff, Swallow, Mzungai
Example mid line going MPP: Swan, Montag, Chapman, Gibbs, Anthony, Gaff

As you can see the first example is the norm, either playing 2-3 rookies on the field.  However if you play Chapman and Gibbs in the middle, it saves you spending the cash on those 2 guys in other areas and you also start with 5 premiums scoring for you in the mids.  Will give you slightly more money to spend in the back and forw line.

Now where this strategy comes into full effect is later in the year...

You make sure you play a few MPP rookies in the forws and backs (eg Heppell).  When these guys mature you sub them into the midfield for either Chappy and/or Gibbs so that they become a premium in your back/forw line then you upgrade that MPP rookie to a premium for your midfield (eg Heppell to mids upgraded to Bartel, Gibbs goes to back line).

I think this is just a different way of using the same strategy, but I no longer think its wrong to have guys like Chapman, Goddard, Gibbs etc in your midfield, either way they are going to end up in their rightful positions after all the upgrades.

Thoughts?

I was actually thinking the opposite to this.

Starting the MPP rookies in the midfield because you know these guys will play and when it come time to trading them out you can bring in a premium player in to keep the MPP in the midfield with your forward and backs. For example you could change a Prestia into a Chapman/Didak this way you will keep MPP all year.

Also generally speaking the midfield rookies will increase in price quicker than any other position so why would you want to fill these positions with premium players when they can be played in normally other lower scoring positions.

That would work too.

Yes midfielder rookies mature faster, but with so many MPP rookies that can play mid as well as back/forw it doesn't matter where they go...the main thing is that they are on the field and if you're going for the car then having too many rookies will set you back from the start and you'll be playing the catch up game all year.

Chopps

surely having a mid with rookie mpp link is the way to go.

starting i ll have at minimum goddard, chappy, swan & boyd with cash for montanga if i wanted (rd 4 bye says no)

my mid is no weaker then your mpp one plus i have the best of the forward and backs
