Summary:

Everything was coming up Petterd in 2010. Scored 2 goals in round 1 despite Melbourne being smashed by Hawthorn, played one of his best games (despite the end of the match!) against Collingwood, and was a key factor in wins against Richmond and Brisbane. Alas, however, injury struck and ended his season. Melbourne's form dipped after that and I believe Petterd's injury was a key factor in that. 12 goals in 6 games is a good effort in my books.

The Crystal Ball:

Based on last year's magic number
Price: $445,200 (no discount), $400,700 (10% discount), $356,200 (20% discount)

Based on m0nty's magic number
Price: $424,000 (no discount), $381,600 (10% discount), $339,200 (20% discount)

Position: FWD/MID or FWD

* Note, have now included prices from m0nty's fan planner. I'm not sure where his number came from but I don't doubt his wisdom! The problem with using m0nty's number is you can't compare players prices in 2010 with 2011 as the scale has changed. So both are included.

I sound like a broken record, but preseason is the key for players returning from injury. Petterd was on the verge of a break-out year last year, and I hope he continues to improve in 2011, I do have my doubts though. But a Melbourne forward line of Green-Petterd-Bate-Jurrah-Watts sounds fairly formidable to me.

I'm not sure if Petterd will keep his midfield tag. Averaged under 13 disposals in his 6 matches, and his role had clearly changed. Here is hoping he keeps his MPP status.

His price should get a 10% discount, but unlikely to get a 20%.

Decision:

On the short list as a MPP, and maybe worth a look as a mid-priced forward anyway. I'm a fan of the kid, but also wary of his scoring ability.

Just realised m0nty has given petterd a price of only $245,100... if that's the case, well, it will be VERY hard to ignore
