As much as i love rate my dt threads, there is a majour problem, everybody has the same team, it is extremely pissing me off, nobody is going to do well in dt if all of our teams are the same, and the casue of everyone having the same teams is because everyone is copying eachother in these threads, or giving advice to other dt coaches of picking up the same players. So what i have done is tried to give people a new team to look at wthout your goddard, swan, sandilands etc.

DEF: B.Lake, H.Scotland, A.Mackie, J.Harbrow, S.Selwood, A.Otten, D.Heppell (J.Cripps, C.O'Shea, B.Wilson)
MID: L.Montagna, S.Pendlebury, J.Selwood, R.Griffen, H.Bennell, J.Polec (M.Wallis, M.Hallahan, J.Schroder)
RUC: D.Cox, H.McIntosh (S.Lycett, Z.Smith)
FWD: B.Green, A.Goodes, N.Riewoldt, S.higgins, B.Fevola, C.Wilson, D.Prestia (P.Karnezis, J.Darling, B.Matera)

Remaining Salary: $75,000
As I said earlier, the point of this team is to open everyones horizons, there are heaps of other options, even others that is already in this team i have created. Your comments on seriously everyone having the same team or very similar? Also rate this "others" team

Ravalle

take your point mate as it worries me about my own team at times....problem is those unique picks can really kill your year right from the outset...eg me last year :'(
A couple of those rookies that you put in there that i havent seen much IN peoples teams are right on my radar for preseason to see how they go eg Schroder (yeah I spelt that wrong!).
Thing is preseason will bring heaps of different results, injury concerns, some people will see a rookie take a huge hanger in the NAB and lock em in where others might consider he aint been near the ball the rest of the night!!! point is the teams will all spread apart people will start to leave important or unique players out of the teams that they put on the forum and DT will separate the men from the boys!!!!! Cant Wait!!!!

whilst this a fair point and not a bad team it is ultimately the trades made during the season that seperate the best from the rest. The same thing happened last year where everyone had pretty much the same team. A successful team is also generally moulded around Goddard, Swan, Sandilands and Riewoldt.

I would rate this team a 7/10

I can't agree with you more Ravalle, this team here isn't actually my team only some of it, I'm to scared posting my team and my ideas then someone else posts there team and now there is 2 of my team, i do of course have the likes of swan and goddard, i just thought that everones teams are too similar, for example by having mzungu and richardson on the def bench, having deledio and houli, in the mid having swallow and gaff, then in the fwds i see buddy, buddy and buddy and i can't keep rating similar teams and it is frustrating and the only conclusion is that people come on fanfooty to look at some of these posts like that persons team and to some extent copy it. I've been doing dt for years and coming on fanfooty for some great resources but this year it feels like everyone has a similar team and just wanted to post a thread on it hahah.

pope, have say it is refreshing to see a different DT team in there so great effort!

but, heres where I pull it apart,  theres a reason why there are so many generic teams out there, coz there the good players and the ones witht he least amount of byes.

the unique players youve chose all have reasons why there not in many people's teams:
Lake - coming off surgery
Scotland - probably peaked last year
Cripps - too many running halfbacks/wings at the Saints
B.Wilson - probably wont get straight into WCE backline as has to get past Waters, Hurn, Selwoods, Smith, Sheppard, Embley, McGinnity and Schofield
Griffin - is too expensive and doesnt score high enough
Bennell - youd pick Swallow over him as, Swallow's more of a ball magnet
Schroeder - touted as the Gaz replacement but doubt he'll get much time as Kelly/Corey should slot into Gazzas spot
Cox - is getting on, Im thinking of him, aswell but just a little worried on his fitness
Hmac - will be hard scoring high with Goldy and Petrie in the same line-up
Higgins - has to step up massively in NAB Cup for most to look at him
Fev - dont think he's a wise choice for anyone, 120 one week-20 the next and that was without Jono Brown stealing goals and stats off him!

and dont stress, its only December, I remember last year everyone having Ball, Masten, Dangerfield, Ziebell, Tippett, etc, etc. in there teams and not many had players like Barlow, Podsiadly or Rockliff
to conclude, all the best teams have similar players, which are the best players, its the fact that the real top teams make the good trades, or started with the right kids or breakout players

popedelio

touche browny but i have to disagree with you on scotland, scotland has been averaging the same for years and didnt peak last year, this isn't my team its just a 'other' team.

I agree with you with all the points you made on the players, lake is a definite upgrade target for me, but i was reading articles the other day and possibly crippsy might get a game from the beginning, and if so i would pick him up for my bench

browny_wce

i know Scotland has scored big before, but i just think that is the highest he will score in a youth driven Carlton team, hence he has "peaked"

yeh i realise its not your team, just saying thats that is why not many people have them

if Cripps plays round 1 he could be an option, quality kid! (very much like Stephen Hill)

Holz

I find that come the start of the season generally i find the rookies are different from team to team and this should be much greater now with 11 players on the bench. Kust look at the possibly mid rookies out there swallow, gaff, caddy, heppel, krakouer, bennel, atley, conca, polec, caddy etc... these players you would all like in your team but it is the choices you make hear that make or break your season.

example this year some people picked up guys like trengove, scully and martin who all started relatively slowly so people didnt have as much money to upgrade as the people who got guys like bastinac, duncan etc.. however they soon pumped ouyt big scores halfway through the season.

browny_wce

or people who picked guys like Banner or JKT that played very few games early in the season and didnt make the money

I reckon you and I and a thousand others could start the year with exactly the same team and no two would finish alike.  In the course of a season there are simply too many variable factors that influence a coach's decisons, and each coach interprets those factors differently.  A truly successful year involves such things as proper information gathering, maintaining awareness, excellent timing, plus intangibles like holding your nerve instead of wasting trades, and good old-fashioned luck.  You've got to go with the players who you think will do the job for you and not be the least bit concerned about others, aside from using them as part of the information gathering process. That's how I see it.
