Summary:

I'm a big fan of Kade Simpson, I think he is a very underrated Carlton midfielder and deserves some more attention. Had a great 2010, but a closer look at his statistics have made me question him a bit.

From Rounds 1 to 10, Simpson averaged 107.8 with 6 centuries and a low score of 81. From Rounds 11-22, Simpson averaged 93.17 with 5 centuries and three scores below 70. Does this mean that as the year progressed, opposition teams simply gave him more attention? Or did he tire?

Another good point is that against bottom 8 sides in 2010, Simpson averaged 111.42 - very impressive. However, against the top 8 sides Simpson's average plummeted to only 85.9. So, does Simpson go missing in big games? Quite possibly.

The Crystal Ball:

Based on last year's magic number
Price: $530,100

Based on m0nty's fanplanner
Price: $504,800

Position: MID

I'd expect more of the same from Simpson this year, with him breaking the 100 barrier in averages. But a lot will depend on how Carlton play.

Decision:

Before looking at his stats closely, I would have been quite prepared to have him as an unique. Now I have doubts. Touch and go.

Great analysis as always Ossie.

Interesting stats re top/bottom 8 clubs. His price is ok for next season, and I still think he would be classed as a unique as not many people will realise his value. As you say he is underrated, thus he goes unnoticed.

He's on my short list with those stats. Worth a look for sure.

Very good sum up Ossie.  One thing in his favour is that he will seldom cop the A-tag with Judd and Murphy probably considered a bit more dangerous by opposition coaches, hence higher possession count, higher score, especially in dream team.

agree with you ossie seemed like a gun for a unique and averaged well but looking closely at the stats you have highlighted like against top 8 an bottom 8 puts doubt in my mind too

touch and go
