There are 3 umpires so each one could DO a position

Umpires rotate over the ground throughout the match, wouldn't be able to see a set of players for the entire match to make that judgement.
Come on Hawka, their never more than 50 or 60 meters from the play, they see everything that goes on.

Are you kidding?

So you expect an umpire who is on the other side of the ground, about 80 meters away, to be focusing on his "assigned" forward players instead of focusing on his umpiring duties. He is assigned the other side of the ground because that is where he has to be focusing.

Of the 12 players he must follow (who knows how the players who start on the bench are classified), it is more than likely that six will be on one side of the ground, six on the other. Some may be off the flanks and playing most of the ground, some players may have stints in the midfield, some may be playing negating roles which take them everywhere.

You expect each umpire to keep track of each of their assigned players wherever they are on the ground, or on the bench, to judge the best of that group.... whatever you are smoking I want some.
