MATTHEW Primus has been chosen to succeed Mark Williams as coach of the Port Adelaide Football Club.

The former Power captain was told of his appointment at 8am today â€" less than 12 hours after he made his final presentation at Alberton.

Primus will be formally presented as Mark Williams’ successor expected to be held at 1pm.

The former ruckman was recommended by the six-man selection panel after the field for the job was reduced to two, with Primus’ rival being Fremantle assistant coach and Brisbane premiership defender Chris Scott.

Primus takes charge after his 5-2 win-loss record during his seven-week audition. He has been an assistant coach since retiring as a player at the end of the 2005 season.

Port has been in an exhaustive selection process that began in late July. The six-man selection panel chaired by club chief executive Mark Haysman made its recommendation to the 10-person Port board last night.

The good win-loss record got him the job IMO. Well done Matty, just make sure you keep that extra $5 in your pocket and not on a bet on the AFL :P

Maybe Chris Scott could apply for the Bombers role now....

Hawka

Yer never doubted he would get it wen the season ended

The Power will announce on Monday the appointment of former Swan, Matthew Nicks, to the coaching panel. Alongside him will also be sacked North Adelaide coach Daniel Healey and the elevated Gary Hocking.

Nicks has obvious AFL experience and West Adelaide heritage, Power hierarchy believes in Healey  ??? (after his successes at Centrals-certainly not at North  :P) and we all new of Buddha's potential leading in to his previous role of runner.

The 'creed' certainly has a new 'breed'.

Power has won the race for Camporeale, siging him on as Forward coach and leaving Nicks and Healy to be development coaches.
