Freo have won 1 final in their history and aren't guaranteed to win this weekend! Wouldn't use them as an example :)

Funny how as a midfielder Knights blindy went about ensuring Essendon developed none.

Did Knights recruit Primsmall? Did Knight develop young promising players like Houli, Monfries, Hocking to step up into the midfield?

Every list has young players but its a cop out to think they all come good together & win you flags. Look at the last 4 or 5 Premiers> geelong had a mix of all ages, as did the Swans. The Hawks were probably more grouped together and before that WC were spread out.

Gumbleton, Hooker is 22, Reimers almost 22. Look around the finals teams and there are plenty a good position players around and under this age showing more than promise. Harry Taylor, Ben Reid, Lachie Henderson, Wellingham, Jarrad Grant, Lonergan,  Sidebottom, Selwood, Hill, Gibbs, Beams even Rioli is only 21.

Get over the youth thing and play for today.

Master Q

Cruis, get over the youth thing? Any club which follows this will get another Knights situation, and sack the coach. Essendon had a lot of old, players, when they all leave, a new coach comes in and gets sacked soon because the side isn't performing. I wouldn't go for that tactic.

I'm glad to see some are looking from the other side, and sort of agree with me. I'm sure some will just attack Knights, because, well... Most people are.

All those players you listed Cruiseon, are all very good. But do you know how many more there are? Good on Collingwood for recruiting Harry and others, very nice recruiting. But don't you think Collingwood have made bad moves? Lets keep on Essendon though.

If people know, there is a draft this year. Essendon do have a some very good experienced players, but if they can manage to find a few, that would be great.

was referring to completely sucking for 2 years and now there playing good footy

bunyip

Knights was sacked because the board decided that the team did not progress this year. They reasonably expected to make the finals again to build on a moderately successful season last year.
So what do they do if they don't make the finals next year, nothing is a given.

Master Q

Bunyip, that's understandable but It's not like only 1 team improves each year. Collingwood and Carlton are now higher on the ladder, Cats,Saints and Dogs were dominant again. Freo moved from outside the eight, and Sydney and Hawthorn also did well. Outside the eight there is still the Roo's, aswell as a Melbourne said who was clearly better then Essendon.

Teams in this year's 8 who are in trouble next year are probably Bulldogs, Swans and Blues I think. Bulldogs losing a bit of experience, Swans also, and Ratten will have the year from hell

Cruiseon

I agree Ossie (and I'm not just saying this because of my love for carlton) but I think with Knights' sacking Ratten is probably the worst coach in the AFL. I see Steve Silvagni coaching Carlton within 12 months.

Master Q

Exactly

Was agreeing with me on accident?

Keep heads up high Bombers.

And anyway, Blues can't go lower, as Our young ones have 1 more year of experience.

Alex7089

Blues can always go lower, they can even reach a new PB low of 17th next year 8)

Bulldogs will struggle to make the 8 next year, honestly their list is really deteriorating.

EAGLE4LIFE

agreed with both things alex

but you can't really talk from a essendon prespective
though either can i

Alex7089

I will admit that Essendon is in the sh*t right now and we are plying like sh*t but we took a step in the right direction with sacking Knights now a successful trade week and draft some good young guys we could be on our way back up in the next few years.
I know we are not doing well, but, I think I can still have an opinion on other teams and the competition.
