QuoteSt Kilda’s third term turn-around in yesterday’s 35-point victory over West Coast at Subi offered an interesting microcosm of the Saints’ form struggles of the past month. Three goals behind and battling ten minutes in, something suddenly changed and last season’s beaten grand finalists were back on their way.

Everybody knew coming into Sunday afternoon’s contest St Kilda were struggling for form after only one win in their last four matches.

And coming up against a West Coast team feeling good about themselves following solid wins over Hawthorn and Melbourne, there was a sense on Sunday the Saints had a season defining game on their hands.

Win and they were 6-3 and looking like a premiership contender again with the top four within reach.

Lose and they would be 5-4, woefully out of form and battling to make the eight.click here to read the rest

They stepped up in the second half.  Still played quite poorly in the first half.

nick33

thats the point, though, valkorum. did u read the article?

it seemed midmatch they snapped out of their slump pointing to better things ahead.

valkorum

1 half of footy in the last 3 games doesnt mean they are back.  They also have a very easy 2 games ahead of them then 2 tough games.

RD 10 - Adelaide (Etihad)
RD 11 - Richmond (Etihad)

RD 12 - Freo (Subi)
RD 13 - Geelong (MCG)

ok mate...i thnk you're missing the point. i agree they're not back, but good signs ahead as they looked to be back to their dangerous best.

valkorum

I agree that there were signs of them being back.... well actually Lenny Hayes was the main catalyst in the fight back.  I just cant see how 2 good quarters of football and everyone is backing them back in to be back in form (which is what I think you are saying as well)

We can only hope they get back to what they were. Was awesome watching their defensive tactics and pressure last year. Has all fallen away after they lost BIG NICK

bunyip

Form goes up and down most seasons for every club. The Saints are just not as consistent this year for various reasons. They will make the 8. The top 4 will be a challenge.
Is anyone prepared to write off Collingwood and Carlton after a poor game this year.
It's going to be a real bun fight for a top 4 position this year.
The Bullies, Geelong, Collingwood, Carlton, Saints, Freo, Sydney.
They have ALL put their hands up for a top 4 spot.
And none of them play each other next week

valkorum

I wouldnt put Sydney in that list of top 4 potentials.

Alex7089

no, not after the performances they put up against top teams...
Carlton not top 4 material either I don't think. I reckon will be the same top 4 as last year just shifted round. Rest of the 8 will be unrecognizable. Essendon will be out, Adelaide out, Hawthorn possibly in, Port probably in same with Freo. Maybe Sydney but also maybe not.

They really only played in the 2nd half against both West Coast and Adelaide. Not that they are threatening opponents.

I miss Reiwoldt :(
