D3/D4 are pretty much interlinked for me at the moment.

IF Cam Shea proved to be worth the hype, gets named Rd. 1 and shows some nice form in the JLT, D3 will be somebody I have in top 6 at years end and O'Shea will go in as D4.

Given I'm skeptical on Cam Shea, I'm tossing up between fielding someone like Rich, Simpson Lloyd at D3 so I can take either Bowes or Brayshaw at D4. Alternatively, I can take punts on Shaw, Hanley, Sicily and K. Kol and field two of them at D3/D4

So, curious as to what other people think of the following choices:

1. Hibberd, O'Shea + $200k
2. Simpson, Brayshaw +$70k
3. Shaw, Hanley

My preference at the moment is 1, 3, 2. If O'shea is who we hope he is then that should be a very good scoring option and frees up a lot of extra cash to reinforce the forwards and M6-M8. Option 3 doesn't leave a lot of cash but will hopefully save a trade down the line if both Shaw and Hanley go back to being around 95ppg. Option 2 is a premium I'm not overly confident about and a mid pricer I'm really not confident about, but I have seen this set up around a bit.

Curious to know what people think...

Option 3 for me, two keepers in there.

Many people in a similar situation withD3/4.
Ideally O'Shea/O'Brien/Byrne get the backline gig at Carlton and 4 decent rookies are named.
If not it means spending more at D4,maybe a little less on D3 and less money for other lines.
Brayshaw doesn't exite me or McGrath at nearly 400k.
Got Hanley/Sicily atm. Would rather Hibberd/O'Shea.

I like the idea of a Simpson/Rich type occupying D3 this season, with Hanley, McGrath or someone in that price bracket at D4.

I don't have a heap of faith in O'Shea getting a gig round 1, just don't see how he fits in. If he smashes the JLT and bashes the door down for opening round selection I might take a look at him.

Don't think WitherGOAT has moved from D3 since I first picked my team.
+1

Was first picked down back. Even before Laird.

O'Shea at D4 is a big risk as that means you are playing 3 rookies on field, even if he is named I wouldn't be confident in his long term JS.

The on field rookies can make a big difference to start the year. A mid rookie at 65 average is losing out 35-40 points on a prem mid, a def rookie is at 55 is losing out on 25-30. The question you need to ask is the extra 100-150k for the prem mid worth the extra 10 points.
