tl;dr - I'm walking 4 hours to work at 4am in the middle of Hobart winter to raise money for Cancer Council. It's TAX TIME so you should donate because it's the best time of year to do so.



Hey all,

Last year, I missed my fundraising target of $5000. Cancer Council Victoria were kind enough to extend my page for a couple more months so please help me get there!

Here’s the deal. I need to raise $600 more so that I can get a research grant in my grandfather’s name to honour him after he lost his fight to cancer last year. In the past, I’ve raised enough to do the same for my dad and other grandfather. Please donate to help me reach that goal.

This time, I’m going to walk to work. This doesn’t sound too bad except that I live 20 kms (approximately 4 hours walking) away from work… and I need to be there by 8am... and it's the middle of winter... in Hobart. The plan is to leave bright and early at the pleasant time of 4am which I can only imagine is nice and warm in the depths of winter in Australia's south.

Please donate as much as you can afford and feel comfortable donating. Here’s my targets:

1. Under $600 â€" I will walk the percentage raised and drive the remaining distance (e.g. $300 â€" I drive halfway and walk the rest; $450 â€" I drive a quarter of the way and walk the rest).

2. $600-$1199 â€" I will walk the whole way to work on Friday June 30th barring bad weather, in which case I will delay it to the next dry day.

3. $1200+ â€" I will walk the whole way to work on Friday June 30th regardless of weather.

Holy crap that was quick! We've just passed the $600 mark so the walk will definitely be the whole distance. Now it just comes down to whether the weather will play a part.

Hey friends! My big walk is this Friday. Weather forecast says 2 degrees at 4am when I'll be starting (oh dear) so I'm not really looking forward to it. I've raised $1140 so far so only $60 more and I'll walk even if the weather changes to crap.

Posted an update last night. Work was hit by the cyber attacks so had to move to Monday. Still happening though.

About 3.5 hours, just under 20kms, and between -1°C and 1°C. I made it.
