Mat0369

I was just scanning the defenders list pretty quickly and his name sticks out. He averaged 108 in 2015 before dropping down to 88 last year. He finished the year really strongly after battling through injury in the first half of the season.

With Mitchell and Lewis both out they might need him in the middle a bit as well. I don't expect him to play 22, but he could be a nice POD, especially if he fires early. He is probably worth the extra cash over Hammer who I see thrown around a bit.

Any thoughts?

i saw him to.  i love his price. age is my only concern

Bluesman

Upgraded him from Hammer also. I think he has to add some grunt to the middle on a regular basis. Am concerned a bit with age and injury also but you have to take a chance/risk somewhere!

Games missed is the biggest worry.
If he stays on the park, he could be the #1 defender.
If he plays 15 games and you factor in 7 rookie scores you're better off with someone else.
H&A record...
2008- 17 games
2009- 19 games
2010- 21 games
2011- 19 games
2012- 8 games
2013- 20 games
2014- 19 games
2015- 17 games
2016- 13 games
It doesn't compare well vs Kade Simpson  :)

You can't compare Simmo's ability to stay on the park to anyone. He has only missed games due to a cheap shot from Wellingham and one soft tissue injury in the last decade.

If you compare him to someone like Bob/Hibberd/Hammer on the other hand, I'm seeing more value in Hodge even if he does miss games.

Simmo aside. Hodge misses too many games was all I was sayin.

Oh yeah, there is no way he plays 22, but if he was to average 105 through the first 10 games everyone is jumping on at the byes.

if thats the case then you can bet the supercoach gods would make sure he misses the majority of the rest of the season and cost us all 2 trades

fasttrack13

There are that many other options who could be POD's that it's just not worth the investment

Love Hodgey, I remember back years ago when he used to be 1st picked in my side locked into D1 position pumping out big scores

Wouldn't be the worst selection but don't think I could risk a possible donut due to injury/suspension here or there when its hard enough to get solid scores out of your backs.

bowyanger

I love the bloke.

Buut...

Guaranteed if he is in your side your going to punch holes in the wall as you watch him butcher every 2nd possession with an eyes closed, off the side of the boot up country mongrel attempted barrel out of a contested situation

Basically he is the general of directing play, fills holes and certainly is not getting any better as a player

I do not believe Hodges role these days is SC friendly (especially where the name of the game is to increase scoring or maintain a high level of scoring) - it would take someone with big aggots to start him....and NFI I think
