Potential Restings Prior to Finals

Even though there is a bye round prior to first week of finals, I'm not convinced that the aging players will not get extra rest opportunities. We have already seen Bartel rested from travelling to Perth, what else is coming up?

This list is a brief list (and my opinion only) of potential restings, just nervous about future trades. Feel free to add/discuss.

Obviously a teams ability to rest sits on potential impact to final 8 make up and the fight for home finals and I've only added fantasy/supercoach/dreamteam relevant players.

Round 21:

  • West Coast travel to visit GWS. Not sure if Eagles are known for resting or if Priddis is a rest candidate

Round 22:

  • Hawthorn travel to WA to play West Coast. Hodge, Mitchell, Gibson may be in for a rest. Melbourne teams proven in past to rest players when travelling to WA.
  • Sydney fly to Tassie to play North Melbourne. McVeigh may get left behind
  • Geelong fly to Brisbane. Surely another rest for Bartel against the Lions
  • Bulldogs play Essendon at home, opportunity to rest Boyd?

Round 23:

  • Bulldogs travel to WA to play Freo. If not rested against Bombers in Round 22, look out Matthew Boyd owners. Given West Coast are a stronger team and finals contender, I expect Bulldogs to do their resting against Essendon
  • West Coast travel again, this time to Adelaide against the Crows. As per round 21 regarding Priddis

I doubt teams are gonna be resting players in matches that would likely be very important in shaping the 8 though. Of the games you listed, only ones I would worry about are:
- Cats vs Lions
- Dogs vs Bombers
- Dogs vs Freo

Dogs vs Freo in WA is a danger game for the Dogs imo, and will depend on where they sit on the ladder prior to R23.

Not so sure re rd23 this year. Needing a rest is one thing, but not playing for three weeks leading into an important final is another. Might want to stay as sharp as possible. Time will tell...

I'd be nervous if I was a Boyd owner

Priddis won't get rested, but he is managing a quad week to week currently

Surely Bartel doesn't get rested again? Reckon Boris, or even Mackie/Taylor/Lonergan might

King_Robbo

No chance that any teams will be resting players in rd 23 this year. 2 weeks out would mean that you loose your touch etc. You see what happened with games after the bye, most teams were very scratchy..
Boyd, though, is a monty to be rested vs Essendon. I also heard that we will rest Morris for that game too... Not that he is SC relevant what so ever..

Bit strange though considering there is a weeks rest after Rd 23. Did have scans on Monday which were clear,
