He is now an unrestricted free agent, he can walk if he accepts Fremantles offer. Essendon get nothing.

That doesn't mean Essendon get nothing? That just means Essendon can't match any bid that Hooker might accept, they still get compensation.

It also means that Freo don't have to offer him "overs" for his contract, to make sure Essendon are forced out of the equation.
