Nobody's asking for a Wines-like first year, but players with half the bodies have great first seasons all the time. They just play different roles, and there's more to footy than inside midfielders.

Would be nice though!  Seriously though at his starting price (211k) wouldn't he need a similar first season to Wines (ave 74 from 22 games) to make him worthwhile as compared to a cheaper rookie who may average less but go up in value faster?

No he wouldn't ... he would need a higher ceiling to your average rookie and a purple patch.

Wines kicked it off with 125,51,121,91,82.

If you think Mills can do that early in the season buy him ... if you think a cheaper rookie can do it also ... buy them both.

We don't buy rookies for their season average ... once they reach their B/E if that aren't a keeper then they're sent to the slaughter house.

It's not that Mills/Hooper/Kennedy/Parish won't be good picks, it's that they aren't in the same boat as Wines or Cripps or Brayshaw so as long as nobody expects a full season with several tonnes, everybody will be pleased with that they get. Some good games before the byes is all you should ask for.

Yeah, great point, I'd actually forgotten how well Wines had started season 2013.  Will be interesting to see if Mills is able to have a similar impact to NAB 1 when the intensity is increased and more pressured is applied as I dont think he will be able to get anywhere near the space and time he got last Sunday.....just my opinion of course

He could only do the role he was given and he did it well. His game isn't limited to that style though. I think he'll be one of those guys that they'll find a role for each week because he's too big a part of their future and ready to go that they won't want to leave him out. When that gives him a couple of weeks in the midfield to cover some injuries and he tons up, his price goes up and we all jump off. $350k isn't a huge ask and it's all you'd need.
