Keays, Mathieson, Cunningham, Phillips, Parish, Brown, Hartley, Hopper, Wagner, Gresham, Dunkley, Collins

Main impessors so far and talked up to have the bodies for early games

Come on, Lovell has been the most impressive so far (I tip this kid to be the best pick of the draft - a natural footballer who carries it on a string).

Not a SC option however because of the Hawk's midfield depth

As this is a SuperCoach feed I only named those who should be R1 SC relevant. However I think there are better players from this draft than Lovell! Ryan Clarke is in the mould of an Ollie Wines, Darcy Crocker, Keays and Weideman are also a class above. Betting on Keays for rising star this year!

Forgot about Keays - he is actually my favourite in the draft (I feel saying that Keays, Hopper and Mills are the best 3 is like stating the obvious though haha)

Yeah Parish is guaranteed a debut and I think Keays is better than some of Brisbane's starters already (really big fan). Saints are not the walk-in club they have been in the past two years so Gresham will have to really impress for an R1 debut and Collins is a beast so I would not be surprised if he played R1 (he really slide considering the fact is not just a monster among draftees but already a beast among the mature bodies - he comparatively makes a first year Wines look small (and he was a raging bull at the time of his recruiting).

Dunkley should play early imo and Cunningham, Weitering, and Curnow are ones to look for.

I don't see Mathieson playing this season (I would bet on him to play one or two games but would not be surprised if he missed the season altogether), he's in a side with good centre circle mids and he is still too unfit to play anywhere else at the top level (like Jansen, I think the Lions see him as a long-term project).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcf2bap01ro - if Lovell can play like this at the top level, he will definitely be a Brownlow medalist one day  :D Hawthorn are generally good at picking up natural footballers in the draft (the exception being Mitch Thorp - Clarkson actually wanted Jelwood but the Hawthorn recruiting staff were worried about his record of injuries sustained during his junior years compared to Thorp's clean record - talk about irony  :P ).

I don't know too much about Crocker or Clarke, but you have peaked my interest in the latter (will be looking into him).

Petracca is leading the rising star odds but a lot of people were tipping Freeman last year so sometimes the early front runner doesn't work out (I don't see why Keays cannot win it if he plays at least 3/4 of the season). Darcy Moore is currently second favourite (both have broken away from the pack in terms of betting odds). Watch out for Laverde and Ahern as well (the latter may struggle to make consistent appearances in the GWS line-up)

Clarke is too small to be compared to Ollie Wines haha

Wines would only be half the player he is for the Power without his size. Clarke does look like a promising player nonetheless (unfortunately he is in Nth Melbourne so it will take one to three years until we see him debut imo)

By mould as in the way he plays... He certainly won't play games for a couple of years but it will be interesting to watch his development.

The late Collingwood  Phillips could play early. Phillips was drafted as a 19 year old so same as when Collingwood drafted Langdon a couple of years back time trial is ridiculous beating Sidebottom and he also has elite skills from what my mate at oakliegh has said. Tough being a mid/fwd at the pies though.

Collins has Adams to compete with for that last spot and I think the saints will look to play both Gresham and freeman if they can
However Currently have a midfield of:
Armitage, Dunstan, Montagna, Steven, Newnes and Weller
Billings + Lonie + Templeton drifting through also.
The ability for Steven, Armitage and Montagna to play forward may push a few of those smalls out
So at the moment; Templton, Lonie, Gresham, Freeman, Sinclair are fighting for those last midfield/forward roles.
I agree it'll be tough for them.

A lot to be found out over nab, boy I'm excited

Curnow is the one player I'm really excited to see play in the NAB. Contested beast (rarely lost a marking contest in the TAC cup) and could be a solid second tall in the long-run (I personally think the Demons should have picked him up to play alongside Hogan, but it's not easy to overlook a talent like Weideman - they should make a solid duo for the Demons)

Curnow is similar to Hogan nowhere near as good but is more of a CHF lead up who can take a contested grab.
Weideman is a true full forward with good goal sense so it brings variety.
Curnow should fit well in at the blues especially when McKay starts getting games

Just a comment from Lions training - Matthieson in my opinion looks better in training than Keays.  Both will get opportunities in the NAB cup. With our midfield though hard to see either playing early. Can not see them upstaging Beams, Rocky, Hanley, Zorko, Robinson, Rich, Bastinac or Taylor early.

That's a really good article actually. Some guys I had in my side having interrupted pre seasons that I didn't know about is making me reconsider

RaisyDaisy

Gresham is an absolute lock.

Stoked to get him in WXV too

jabroni

guys given there is more knowledge on here than on the other sub forums, who would be best to pick up in legacy draft leagues from a DT point of view? im sure darcy parish will be gone but just looking at who are the next cripps/heeney from this years lot  :D

i know the melbournians get some nice under 18s footy shows but we over west aint got jack to look at

Hopper, M.Brown, Dunkley, T.Phillips, Gresham
As I don't know what legacy draft is (assuming it's where you hold you players year to year)
Dunkley + Hopper + Phillips are long term guys who could be premium for their position and Gresham and Brown are your now guys and Gresham is in the future premo bracket IMO as well

jabroni

cheers mate  :D

and yeah legacy league is where you keep the players year to year
