Injury Affected

Profile

A knee injury ended Hogan's 2013 VFL season but he looked to be set to play early for the Demons before another knee scare was followed by the revelation he had stress fractures in his back. He was only able to return to Casey for one game late in the year where he collected 5 touches and kicked a behind. Due to the injuries Jesse will be priced at a much more affordable level in 2015 but coaches will have to weigh up whether it's worth selecting a young KPP with an injury history and no guarantees he will score at acceptable levels. You certainly wouldn't want to be fielding him but a bench position is a possibility if he performs in the pre season.

Pros - His 2013 VFL season showed he was capable of tearing games apart

Cons - Injury, unknown quantity at AFL level, potential lack of consistency

Prediction - 57-61

henry

Surely he will be basement priced or close to it, playing no AFL games for the year. Worth a bench shot for sure if he is.

Toga

Gotta be worth a look on the bench although it does depend on what price he is going to be

Ricochet

Yeh locked in just based on his price and his ability. The kid will be a star one day

Sweetness

Assuming he gets named round 1 pretty safe F8 option.

Master Q

Will be extremely popular if he is cheap.

Spinking

Pretty sure he is going to be rookie priced, which should mean most will start with him if he looks like getting games. Really rate him and hope he gets early games.

Hellopplz

Dominates at VFL level, so certainly a shot at bench if named Round 1! I'm sure Melbourne would play him after allowing him to play VFL past 2 seasons with them, and they could use a tall forward to bring along and get experience into.

Holz

hope he is like 160k, that should scare a few people off, but ill still pick him.

predicting a 65-70 average, kids a star.

QuoteHogan to be 'a genuine star' says Dawes

JESSE Hogan has the potential to be "a genuine star of the competition", Melbourne forward line teammate Chris Dawes says.

Despite the hype surrounding him, Hogan is yet to play an AFL game after being sidelined by a debilitating back injury in 2014.

But the good news for Demons fans is that the 19-year-old is fighting fit and is expected to be ready to make his AFL debut in round one next year.

Dawes said Hogan, who re-signed with the Demons until the end of 2017 late last year, had all the hallmarks of being one of the best forwards in the AFL in years to come.

"The thing that makes me so confident that he's going to be a genuine star of the competition is that he's got that competitiveness, that aggression and willingness to use his body against big guys that you usually see key-position players take a few years to develop," Dawes said on Tuesday.

"He's almost got that innate in him."

Dawes said Hogan's work-rate for such a young player was exceptional and it was in that area that he separated himself from his contemporaries.

Dawes made a point of having regular conversations with Hogan throughout last year and he said the pair had developed a strong relationship.

Hogan is likely to feature as the Demons' focal point up forward in 2015, and Dawes said he was obliged to take some of the heat off his younger teammate.
