Why do you think Gibson will take the best forward each week? Frawley has come to Hawthorn for a purpose, and with Lake and Stratton you have the oppositions three best forwards covered, which allows Gibson the freedom to do as he pleases.

Add into the equation that you have already stated that Birchall is the best rebounder and we all know is more likely to curbed by a tag, so I don't really see where Gibson will find any hassles?

He is an unbelievable player at coming in third man up and spoiling (which SC rewards), and is very good at taking contested marks and being that link from FB to HB, where he possesses a beautiful efficiency to hit a target.

If he averaged 92 taking the first/second best forward behind Lake, imagine the points he could score having no responsibilities? Yes there will be some weeks where he will have to play on an oppositions best forward, but I can see that being few and far between, and the statement that Frawley will play forward is ridiculous, seeing as Gunston, Roughead and one of McEvoy/Ceglar will play down there most weeks..

What is there to lose? Less than 2% ownership and I really hope he stays that way!

Gibson will play on the key forwards more often than not, he has for most of his 10 year career so I can't suddenly see Frawley changing that. As for Frawley playing forward, he did last year and hit the scoreboard in 10 matches, to suggest that he will never play there again is a pretty bold statement. Lake is also past his used by date, he's 33 and played 8 games last year, Frawley will obviously be his immediate replacement heading into the future.

Anyhow, I've said my bit, those opting for Gibson over Shaw are taking an unnecessary gamble in my opinion, a gamble I'm unwilling to take myself.

With Heater you're not going to get 22 games out of him, brain explosion of sorts and missed games are a given

I had Gibson before reading this thread but changed to Shaw.
Basically there is little doubt on Shaw. He is proven.
I feel good about Gibson and valid points made above but there IS DOUBTS. It looks like Gibson will play a nice role but will it happen, and happen for the season?
So it's Shaw or both for me.

Umm Hawks have played Schoenmakers/Spangher and even Cheney playing on the other key forward. Stratton doesn't play on the KPP's he plays on the small/medium sized guys and is more likely to match up on a Breust type (using the Hawks as an example) then a Gunston come round 1. Frawley basically replaces Schoenmakers/Spangher, it won't mean Gibson is playing a different role to last season. Plus you have Birch to come in which means Gibson will spend more time being 3rd man in.

Also Shaw will kick it to himself 99% of the time to pad his stats nicely.

The only reason Chip played forward was because Melbourne had no one else to play there!

Don't think Hawthorn need him to play forward.

As I said after their game v Nth Melbourne it looks very much like Lake and Chip taking the talls and Gibbo playing a loose role. When Birch comes back he cops the tag, so no danger of that going to Gibbo.

Gibbo playing a loose role instead on one of the KPP forwards is a more SC friendly role and would be more likely than not to improve on his 92.5 average from 2014. A lock in my side and one of the safer risks to take in defence this season.

I'm happy if he stays as a POD. More upside for me.

I still have Shaw over Gibson but only just. I don't think you can go wrong with either

Why not have both? (Cues Mexican Tortilla pic :P)

Shaw is the perfect D2. I don't think I'd want Gibbo as my D2, but I think having him at D3 behind say a Eski/Shaw/Simmo combo would be ideal, and something I'm considering

But Gibson's role for the majority of last season was on the 3rd forward allowing him to zone off. When Gibson was injured Litherland came in and played in a similar role. They played guys like Cheney, Spangher and Schoenmakers with Lake and Gibson allowing Gibson to zone off so the sudden increase in points to say 100+ is not justified based on his role last season. He will still take some key match-ups (like Buddy) because he is the best suited player for the job.
