There was an article the other day on herald sun saying how his back is now a non-issue for him and he has been training really well and is physically fine. Don't know how he will go when it gets around to the season though since as zip said it's not actually a condition that can be fixed, only managed.

I think I saw that article, or a very similar one, it wasn't that it was a non-issue, it was Scott saying that it wouldn't affect how he was going to play him or something

Must have been a different one, because this is the direct quote from Hawkins...

"Physically I'm feeling really good - the back's a non-issue now for me," Hawkins says.

"Last year was obviously frustrating, but that's a part of footy. Some days it was good, some days it was bad.

"Looking back, I didn't have a great year. I'm trying to put everything behind me from last year. I'm not using (the back) as an excuse at all but, like I said, it's feeling great."

How did this turn into a Hawkins thread? Haha,  :P

Vinny

Cause there is not enough relevant Freo defenders in 2014, haha.

GoLions

After Duffield last year, think I might stay away from any freo defenders until perhaps later in the season. But with players like Mitchell, McVeigh, Simpson, Bartel, Thompson, Hanley etc can't see any of them even coming under consideration for a spot in my team.

I wouldn't touch the Freo defense in SC. Ibbo has had injury issues throughout his career and has never really been a SC option apart from a 9 game stretch last year, Johnson is KPD and Duffield is Duffield. Spurr and Pearce would be interesting options considering their price but most likely not worth the risk. The other thing is Lyon plays a defensive game style and wants all his defenders to be able to lock down an opponent which hurts their scoring potential.

Not sure either Ibbo or Pearce will be ready for round 1.

Also noticed that Lyons stated in the second article that Morabito will be coming back via the WAFL.

Yeh Morabito is also training with the fwd group. I don't see him as a good pick tbh. He is super cheap for his ability but our team is so set that it would take quite a few injuries for him to string a lot of games together without being affected by the vest
