Fatty

Gidday viewers. Fatty is a bit of a tightar5e and refuses to pay anymore money than he already does to Rupert. As such my download is of my Fanplanner attempt as I try to learn how to play this game after years of failure.

Seeing as I have been busy drinking Beer and watching the Poms getting flogged, I've done bu99er all research. So I'm looking at the forward line and breaking into a cold sweat. I not seeing too many bargains here folks. So my strategy this year is to invest in the Forward line and stack it full of mids.  I'm liking Parker and Mitchell to have productive seasons and you can't go past Paddy as a Forward this year, especially with Dog being a mid now. As a Cat fan that move hurts nearly as much as Chappy heading to the Bombers. The absentee from the team photo is Shane Kerston who must have been doing a few Chris Rogers moves, he has been fined by team management for missing an official fatbar5tads team function.  Despite that Kersten will get a game, especially early and I reckon Mason Shaw from Port could do a bit of a Jake Neade.

Many observers might have notice the omission of Scotty Pendulbury in the mids.  I've got enough round eight byes as it is so I thought I'd jump on Scotty after that Pie Bye, possibly at the expense of an upgraded Gartlett. So I'm hoping the young Gartlett stays off the pi55 and gets a run with the Hawks. I'm a massive fan of the Norwood Redlegs and I reckon James Aish will cane it this year with the Lions. To back up Gaz in the mids I've gone for Libba and Rockliff. Hopefully Leppa will play Rockliff in his right position and bang there's a keeper. I reckon Libba is a gun and the Bulldogs draw is juicy as. Dane Beams is a must so he's in as well. Otherwise I've gone for highly priced rooks so I might get burnt by smarter coaches who have got in with some cheap rooks. Hmmm.

For the backs I was keen on having McDonald and KK on the field but I got a bit spooked by some of the pre-season talk so Docherty got the ar5e in favour of Paul Seedsman, a player who I believe will kick on this season. You've got to have Mitchell in the backs if you are fair dinkum but even though I'm a Catter I'm not sure on Bartel who is a bit pricey and could end up in the forward line for Geelong this year. I also reckon that the McVeigh won't be able to replicate last year's numbers so I'm not keen on him. Hanley will so I picked him instead.

For the Rucks I've been a complete tightar5e and taken my biggest risk. Sandi and HMac haven't played a lot of footy in recent years but if they stay on the park that's my ace in the hole.  Never been ranked higher than 1000 in SC so I'm not one of those dreamers thinking of the 50k. I run a massive ten league promotional/divisional competition and I've lost the Granny in Hogg Premier four times so I'm out for league glory. Obviously I'll be looking at Goldy and Minson or maybe Nick Nat but only Nick Nat looks handy price wise at this stage. Pyke might be the go as well. Not too sure about my backup rucks so any advice would be golden.

Thanks for listening! Help me Obi Wan, you're my only retro reference! $49,100 in the kitty.

G'day mate, that's not a bad looking team. Would try and fit Dale Thomas in as a fifth mid if you can find a way. He'll both score well and make money. Taking the risk on both Hmac and Sandi could well pay off for you but perhaps swap either Parker or Mitchell for T Bellchambers and Derickx for M Thurlow giving you DPP coverage in the ruck in case either Mac or Sandi are managed. Saves you a trade and possibly gives you a unique forward. The rookies will take care of themselves once the NAB starts. Cheers and all the best.  ;)

Ringo

Not a bad looking team here and rookies will sort themselves out.

Just a couple of suggestions Would only start one of Parker or Mitchell preferably Parker - (Will Mitchell still make Sydneys best 22 and if so could be sub a lot Just my opinion though.)

So I would look at this change to really strengthen Team Currie to Brown or Thurlow and then Mitchell to Bellchambers or Dixon gives you a link from Ruck to Forward.

As ST said try and work Thomas into Mids but that is your decision as you have to find extra cash to do so.

Strong looking side, my main concerns would be your starting ruckmen, two older/injury plagued ruckmen who have missed a lot of footy in the last few years, just think your rolling the dice picking the both of them.

Also I don't like Luke Mcdonald on the bench, at $182k is just too much money to be sitting on the pine.

First i would like to say you have spent too much up forward which has caused your ruck to suffer and caused you not to be able to get thomas into your team.
This is how i rate your Team.
Def: Gone for alot of depth here as you have Mcdonald on the bench
Mids: Probably 1 rookie too many here. You need to find the extra to get Thomas in.
Rucks: Bit Suspect as both are injury prone. Get a DPP Ruck for your bench Brown and leave currie out
Fwds: Would leave Mitchell out and bring someone Cheaper into the team even if it means getting Bock into your team or look at getting someone like charlie Dixon as a straight swap.

Team looks good just can't rate the rookies yet 7.5/10

Hi mate, great write up, so your effort merits some advice.  I can't offer anything different from the other guys, you have the same ruck combo as me, which is fraught with danger! In order to mitigate (how's that for corporate wank) the risk you gotta;

a. Change one of your two rucks to a rock solid premo (Minson or Goldy type), or,
b. Establish a DPP link to your Fwd line (Thurlow/Brown - Dixon/Bellchambers/Hale), or....
c. Go uber risky and play Daw as DPP in FWD

I hope that helps mate.  Oh, and Go Cats!!!

HMac is hardly old at 29... Cox is 32 and still is averaging 110 ish. I agree both are a bit of a risk but it's a calculated one. Save 500k you can spend elsewhere. For a player who averaged 90 and 80 in 2009 and 2010, playing nearly full seasons, and then averaged 102 from 7 games in 2012... If you pick him and he plays only 10 games at an average of 90, his price goes up nicely. Similar with Sandi, his scoring ability is not an issue, the number of games is. Prior to last year he had 4 years of 100+ averages, 3 of which were >110. Just that in 2011 and 2012 he only played 13 and 12 games... Again, if he can play me 10 games at an average of 100, he makes a bunch of money. Certainly worth considering. As sabretooth says if you can organise some DPP cover it could well be worth a punt if HMac is up and about round 1...

Still, I agree HMac is a risk, more from the pov of being managed, he doesn't have the history of being the main ruckman like Sandi. Freo have found alternatives but it's hard to go past the giant. Cats on the other hand have a few others that usually share the load.

seedsman could go ok but bit pricey, ditto the gold coast alphabet kid, like your other 6 backs

im taking on gazza this year, the time is right to ditch him at the start, not having rocky without the dpp, martin & aish too pricey & dont know langdon, like the other 5

i like your 2 main rucks but they need backup, dont think youve quite nailed that

mitchell at that price 2nd year i cant have him,a saints kid with only 2 other kids as backup id look at changing that, dayle garlett into forwards for billings & michie or tyson from dees into mids perhaps, like your other forwards

Fatty

Thanks Boys some good advice in here for sure.  Thomas seems to be the go in the mids so I'll have a closer look at him. Everyone is on Sandi and HMacs backs regarding their injury woes but Thomas has just as many injury concerns for mine.

Gone for the DPP in Ruck to cover the dodgy cheap ar5e selections I put in there. So naturally I pick a bloke who never breaks down Dixon LOL. I liked the sound of Bellchambers from another poster but bang down he goes so injury gods starting early this year.

Given Mitchell the flick and elected to go Parker instead.  Moved a few around but still haven't put Thomas in yet. Hopefully he's up and running in the NAB.

I'm pretty keen on spending up in the forward line as I don't see any real value in there. A lot of teams are putting in Bock, Kersten and Rohan but I don't really like the look of any of those guys. Even Menzel from Carlton could be worth a look but I'm worried about his Job Security.

Cheers.
