Well, it looks like piecing a team together might be a bit tougher this year with the changes in rookie pricing and what not. Anyway, here is my first draft for 2014.............let me know what you reckon.

Cheers

thats a nice team first up. Maybe having steven, libba and murphy as 3 of your 5 premium mids is a little risky but other than that looking solid!

Ricochet

BACKS start strong but then end weak with 2 rookies at D5 and D6. I'd look at turning Mitchell or Bartel into Simpson for cash and then look to upgrade D5 to Birchall or Waters.
MIDS a bit too unique for me. Stevens and Libba are risky IMO. I'd look at guys like Rocky, Cotchin and you definitely need DBeams in there. Also consider DThomas
RUCKS solid mate. You can sort out the rookies close to round 1
FWDS not too bad but not a fan of spending 200k on a rookie. Maybe look to downgrade Bock and then upgrade Billings

As already stated a unique midfield. Could pay off if they all enter that elite level, but I'd swap out atleast one for a GAJ, jobe or Selwood

Thanks for the replies fellas.

In regards to the backline, I think I will be happy to start with 2 rookies on the field. Luke McDonald should be a gun, and if Zak Jones gets game time and plays anything like his older brother, he should generate some cash for an upgrade.

In the midfield, Jack Steven is the one I'm most dubious about, and I reckon I'll swap him out. I'm confident with the selection of Lil Libba, had a great season last year and I reckon he will go one step further this year. If you have a look at his numbers for the last 8 games of last year, they read - 125, 120, 118, 119, 96, 106, 112 and 159. And those first 4 numbers were against Essendon, Hawthorn, West Coast and Sydney.

Not sure about dropping so much on a super premium like Minson in the ruck, may downgrade this to generate some spare cash.

Viv Michie or Dom Tyson? Decisions decisions.

Jack Billings in the forward line is also a question, along with Mitch Clark. The big question for Clark is how his body holds up. If he is fit, I reckon he will be good for a consistent 80+, particularly if Melbourne get their midfield together and he sees a bit more of the footy. Hogan is a lock. Fullstop. Also thinking about Daniher, likely to get a lot more game time considering the player movements at the Bombers.

And it probably doesn't need mentioning, but all rookie selections are pure theory at this stage until we see how they shape up early next year.

Working on the second draft at the moment, I'll post it up a bit later.

Cheers guys,

Millsy

Backs - Strong, keep a watch on the rookies as its always hard to find enough good back rookies, top 3 premiums all good picks.

Mids - perhaps too unique with all of fyfe, steven, libba. Would want at least one more super premo in there. Beams a lock for most people but murphy or thomas also cash saving options at m5.

Rucks - Not sold on minson at 600k+. Would rather go with Nic Nat or Mummy who have injury issues, but if fit can average the same at 100k+ cheaper, keep an eye on rookies. Sandi will be in everyones team if fit, Grundy another option at r2 if not.

Fwds - premium picks good, read somewhere that billings isnt in full training yet but cant recall where that was from. Bock too much money on the bench. Clarke a good pick at his price, keep an eye on hogan, fasolo another good option.

Changes? Would get rid of one of bock/billings and move Honeychurch or taylor to the fwds, still keep your mpp, then get in another mid rookie, aish, clinton young, tyson or others. Minson to nic nat, mummy or even mcevoy. Should leave you enough cash to upgradesteven, libba or fyfe, whoever your least sold on to a super premo, selwood, watson, ablett.

Here's a second draft.......

Backs:Simalar to mine except i have Docherty instead of Jones but its ok.
Mids: Good Depth here with Thomas at M6 & Claye beams at M9
Rucks Gamble here but Grundy could improve even more.
Fwds: Joe Daniher is the Interesting and unique pick here haven't seen him in many teams so could pay off.

Overall team is shaping up well it has a mixture of Premiums,MID Pricers, & Rookies. The only negative is that Ablett is not in that team. 8/10
