Hi all, this is only my 3rd year at SC but I finished in the top 10% in my 1st yr and top 6% last yr, so I was wondering if people could have a look at my team and offer any advice so that I can improve again this yr. This is just the first version, as the real footy season doesn't start for a while. For the dreaded bye rounds, the break down is 10/10/10, and I have $11, 400 left in the bank.

Wookie Fanplanner squad in the Super Coach competition coached by Bulltank. Salary cap left: $11,400.

Def: Jimmy Bartel, Heath Shaw, Kade Simpson, Toby Greene, Beau Waters, Matt Suckling
(Kurt Aylett, Jake Kolodjashnij)

Mid: Gary Ablett jnr, Steve Johnson, Tom Rockliff, Tom Liberatore, Luke Hodge, Dayne Beams, Shane Savage, Jack Martin
(Anthony Morabito, Tom Langdon)

Ruc: Aaron Sandilands, Brodie Grundy
(Liam McBean, Toby Nankervis)

Fwd: Nic Naitanui, Lance Franklin, Dale Thomas, Thomas Boyd, Nathan Bock, Viv Michie
(Jesse Hogan, Spencer White)

Def: May Walker instead of Simpson,Prefer Grant Birchall instead of Greene
Mid: Stevie J is a unique pick in the midfield might be worth going with if your going for overall not sure about Shane Savage i think you could save money by  picking a rookie
Rucks: Bit Risky here but you need to take risks.
Fwds: Your a bit weak here need to strengthen not sold on Bock and buddy is likely to miss a few games as he tends to get suspended

Overall Your team is strong in many areas but weak in others just need to find the right balance.
The good thing you do have is the breakdown of 10/10/10. Just watch the preseason matches and see how the mature age rookies go you should improve on your 6% this year. 7.5/10

Gone too heavy down back I think, unless there's basically no rookies to choose from in round 1. Would drop Greene for a rookie for now just for the cash.

Midfield is too heavy as well. Best rookies available are in the midfield, and you only have 3. You won't be able to generate any cash in order to make upgrades as the season goes on. Drop Savage to a rookie, probably drop Hodge as well (pretty sure he can be picked in defence anyway, so a waste to have him in the midfield. maybe replace one of your other defenders with him if you really want him, as he isn't a bad pick in defence). I think SJ is a bad move in the midfield, as there are so many other players who can average as much as him, but won't spend every second week on the sidelines suspended. Pendlebury is your man.

Use the cash made from downgrades I suggested to upgrade Grundy to Minson/Goldstein/Leuenberger. IMO he is a bad choice for R2, as he won't be giving you premium scores and won't make a tonne of money either. Sandi is worth the risk as he can pump out 100+ scores regularly when fit.

Boyd won't score that well I reckon, replace him with someone like Fasolo/Karnezis (or Higgins if you're happy to take the risk. I definitely am). Maybe Bock to Pavlich or Martin if you still have cash to spend.

I made the team in mind that the 22 will play week in, week out because its way to soon to know which rookies will be selected. Not sure whether Fasolo or Karnezis will be in the Pies best 22. For now im happy to take the risk with Higgins, but will have to wait n see how his foots holds up over pre-season. I'm gonna stay away from D Martin due to the restricted interchanges coming into place next year and his fitness and output in 2nd halves worries me. Taking a risk with SJ - he either kills you when you have him, or kills you if you don't. Does anybody know why L McDonald from NM isn't able to be selected as a Def?? Know any decent rookie defenders that will play though - same with the mids. Also am seeing a lot of teams with C Beams in their sides???

Just remember atm Rookies are a guestimate at this stage. Even my own rookies will change based on those that are actually starting in round 1.  You need rookies making cash for you from Round 1.

I expect McDonald to be DPP but FP does not allow that opportunity at the moment so if he is problem solved for you.
Morabito may be a while away so look at Dunstan or similar.
Your comments on Dusty are warranted.
Regarding Clay Beams - He was cementing a place in Brisbane's midfield prior to his injury and will push again this year.  Is training solidly atm so expect him to figure i Round 1 selection based on pre-season form. Mayes. Aish, Taylor and Beams are probably competing for 2 spots.

Hope that helps and as I said do not worry about rookies as they can be easily inyetchanges based on who is playing round 1.

Wookie's Team Version 2.0

DEF: Jimmy Bartel, Heath Shaw, Trent McKenzie, Sam Gilbert, Beau Waters, Matt Suckling
Kurt Aylett, Jake Kolodjashnij

MID: Gary Ablett jnr, Steve Johnson, Jobe Watson, Tom Rockliff, Luke Hodge, Dayne Beams, Dom Tyson, Jack Martin
Anthony Morabito, Patrick Cripps

RUC: Ben McEvoy, Aaron Sandilands
Liam McBean, Toby Nankervis

FWD: Nic Naitanui, Lance Franklin, Dale Thomas, Shaun Higgins, Viv Michie, Jesse Hogan
Shane Kersten, Spencer White

Byes: 3/3/2 - 4/2/4 - 1/1/2 - 1/3/4 = 9/9/12 (in the format of R8/R9/R10)

Have made 8 changes from Version 1.0:
- T McKenzie in for K Simpson
- S Gilbert in for T Greene
- J Watson in for T Libatore
- B McEvoy in for B Grundy
- S Higgins in for N Bock
- S Kersten in for T Boyd
- D Tyson in for S Savage
- P Cripps in for T Langdon

Prefer this setup with the bye rounds, with the intention that hopefully the 3 Melbourne players of Hogan, Michie & Tyson will have made some money by round 10 (bye round for demons), and can upgrade/downgrade them out to some more premo's and new rookies on the bubble.
