2013 Season Review - West Coast

Best First Year Player
Mark HUTCHINGS - 9 matches, 809 points at 89.89. Increased $309,900
After being drafted to the Saints in 2010, and then the Eagles in 2012, Hutchings finally got his chance to play senior football in round 7. He was decent bench cover this year, playing 6 games in the second half of the season in a row, and scoring 4 100s in that time. With the Eagles having a few midfield retirements this year, expect Hutchings to go on and forge an honest career.

Most Improved Player
Josh J. KENNEDY - 21 matches, 1889 points at 89.95. Increased $35,900
After being injured for much of last season, it was a big year for Josh Kennedy. He showed us glimpses of what he was capable of back in 2010 and 2011, but this year was a real breakout for him, being one of the top key forwards of the competition. Being cheap at the start of the year, he was a good F5 or 6 for the whole year, until the last month of the season where he really let us down.

Best Buy
Dean COX - 22 matches, 2361 points at 107.32. Decreased $88,500
Getting Fwd/Ruc DPP was a huge bonus for the Eagles big man this year. It enabled people to get a couple of top ruckmen and play Dean down in the forward line for a bit of versatility. While he didn't have as good a year as his last couple, he was still very solid, handling solo ruck duties for much of the year. His highlights were 171 in round 3 against Melbourne and a big Grand Final effort of 158 against Adelaide in round 23.

Worst Buy
Daniel KERR - 10 matches, 817 points at 81.70. Decreased $63,100
There were a few candidates for this position, but in the end I went with Daniel Kerr. The injury prone midfielder looked like he would enjoy a strong twilight to his career, after playing a full 22 games in 2012, something that he had only done once in his career before. He teased us that he could get back into strong form, and instead came out and was hit with more injuries, only playing 10 games and cracking the ton just twice. His year has ended with him, by all reports, set to announce his retirement, and congratulations to a man who, in his day, was a prolific SuperCoach scorer.

2014 Prospects
Nic Naitanui
Nic Nat was cruelled by injury this year, but he showed what he is capable of, kicking the winning goal after the siren against North Melbourne in round 8. You would have to think that Cox, at 32, will start to slow down over the next year or two, and that Naitaui will be spending a lot more time in the ruck than up forward. Also if he keeps his Ruc/Fwd status, lock him in for a starting position next year.

Matt Priddis
A great pickup this year after a price drop from injury, Priddis is Mr. Consistent, and be assured that you will get a solid 90-110 score from him just about every week. He could be a good M4 or 5 starting option if you are looking for a bit of stability in your side.

Beau Waters
All we can do is hope that Waters can make it through the next few seasons without being injured. If he can, he will be one of the top defenders in the competition. His willingness to win the ball is second to none at West Coast, and after averaging 100 in 2012, he definitely knows how to score. Only 7 games this year means he should receive a nice discount for next year, but make sure you monitor his pre-season to see if he is going to be playing at the start of the season.

Might actually bite the bullet on Masten next season...wimped out on him for the usual big names this year..  :-\
