EAGLE ALERT - Defender Beau Waters will miss the rest of season 2013 as he heads in for shoulder surgery - http://bit.ly/19cUel6

Uncompromising West Coast defender Beau Waters will have season-ending surgery in the next few days.

The 2012 All Australian half-back has missed the last few matches with a knee injury, but a shoulder problem has been identified as needing immediate attention, ruling him out for the rest of the year.

The news does not get any better, with midfielder Luke Shuey likely to miss the next three matches with a recurrence of the hamstring strain that sidelined him until Sundays game against Sydney.

Shuey felt tight in the same hamstring just before half-time against the Swans and sat out the last two quarters on the bench. Although a low-grade strain, the clubs medical staff will take no chances with the emerging midfielder and he could miss a further three weeks.

Rookie ruckman Callum Sinclair will also miss the rest of the year after having surgery on his right knee today. After a lay-off of several weeks, he hurt the knee playing for Subiaco a couple of weeks, damaging the meniscus.

On a brighter note, reigning club champion Scott Selwood is a good chance to play against the Western Bulldogs on Sunday. He has made strong progress from a broken thumb and with convincing training form this week, he will give the match committee something to ponder.

The undermanned midfield could do with another experienced body, particularly one as adept as Selwood in the clinches.

As A WCE fan I think we're just going to limp to the finish now..been a tough old year and I'd say Waters off for surgery is the white flag. Need Scooter back to pick up 4 points against the Bullies

Consider Ashely Smith for the backline. He got 25+ possies in the WAFL withlong term injuries to Waters and Hurn might cement a spot. Has the ability to average 85 I would think with potential 110+ scores. Very unique.

I hate Ash Smith as player, he is terrible and always manages to turn the ball over or just krap at decision making, I guess he just needs games to get some confidence. Could be good news for Carter also, has been playing well on the small forwards and deserves to stay in the side for the rest of the season

7 games at an 87 average... will that get him a discount for next year?

I think under 10 games you do get a small discount. But that's very small. I would stay clear for next season, jump on suckling next year

I agree Ash Smith is terrible.
And I agree Carter has been good and should play out the year whether they keep him or not remains to be seen.It seems to me these guys Carter,Hutchings and Wilson all played well but they get dropped over the more seasoned players to me that is wrong if the Eagles want to win they need to play the players giving their all and drop those that are not playing well. Also they need to stop playing A.Selwood.

Toga

Just cannot get on the park can he? :-\
