Rookie Midfield the way to go?

Recently I have been toying with the idea of having a Midfield stacked with rookies, and then going heavy in other lines. With so many rookie options in the mids this year, I feel this could be a solid strategy. It also allows me to take minimal risks in the forward, defence and ruck lines. Anyhow, this is the team i've put together.

DEF: Goddard, B - Gibbs, B - Duffield, P - Hanley, P - Heppell, D - Goodes, B (EMG) Stevenson, L - Terlich, D
MID: Ablett, G - Toumpas, J - Stevens, K - Wines, O - Lonergan, J - Mitchell, K - Crouch, B - O'Meara, J (EMG) Jones, M - Viney, J
RUC: Maric, I - Jacobs, S (EMG) Witts, J - Currie, D
FWD: Franklin, L - Cox, D - Walker, T - Zorko, D - Rockliff, T - Martin, D (EMG) Macaffer, B - Neade, J
Cash Remaining: $269,400

All opinions are welcome.

Risky but could work. I still think you will score more from
premium mids

I think it could be the go. I've stacked the forward line and rucks. I haven't gone as hard as you on the rookies though. I've gone 3 premos and 5 rookies in the midfield and 4 premos and 2 rookies in the backline.

I've decided to drop Heppell for Pittard, and then upgrade Toumpas to Pendlebury, to give me a bit more security in the Midfield. This leaves me with $108,600.

Good call, I like the idea of the rookie midfield but haven't got the guts to go through with it. Just focused on Supercoach this year but have entered a Sportal team with Ablett, Swan and a 8 rookie midfield as a side interest and just to see how it goes.
Good luck Big Mac.

Will Matt Jones play?

Really need all your mids to be getting game time to make this strategy work

He's a mature aged rookie and scored 106 on the weekend, so I think he could be a good chance to play in a very young melbourne outfit. Obviously though I'll wait and see who's named rnd 1 before locking in the rookies.

I've switched my team around a bit and brought in two more Prem mids. This gives me more security in the midfield, access to the better back rookies, and allows me to bring Naitanui into the team when he is injury free.

DEF: Goddard, B - Gibbs, B - Duffield, P - Stevenson, L - Terlich, D - Goodes, B (EMG) Pittard, J - Docherty, S
MID: Ablett, G - Pendlebury, S - Kennedy, J - Stevens, K - Wines, O - Lonergan, J - Mitchell, K - O'Meara, J (EMG) Crouch, B - Viney,J
RUC: Maric, I - Jacobs, S (EMG) Blicavs, M - Currie, D
FWD: Franklin, L - Cox, D - Walker, T - Zorko, D - Rockliff, T - Karnezis, P (EMG) Macaffer, B - Neade, J
Cash Remaining: $155,700

Lonergan to miss a few.

Not set on Terlich and Docherty's JS. Don't get me wrong I have Dean in my side, just concerned about JS. Watch Stevenson as well.
These guys had great pre-seasons, just a bit of talk that a few blokes will be back for the Dees round1 hit-out, and someone has to make way. If Viney (and he should) plays round 1, not sure on Toumpas for round1, Clarke + Trengove in the frame... Kent, Terlich and Jones of the Matt variety will be wrestling for a game... Watch this space is all.

Stevenson has been outstanding, but so has Heath, Jonas will all but certainly be a lock and I suspect Pittard will get a gig.

I understand your concerns about Terlich, but he was actually drafted because Melbourne needed a player who could run and carry from the backline. Docherty on the other hand I have no idea about, I'm just waiting to see who's named in rnd 1.

Viney is expected to play round 1 (assistant coach said), Toumpas i'm not sure about but he has been signed for 4 years so hopefully that means something. Clarke should play rnd 1, and so will Trengove but only for 50% game time. I'm a melbourne supporter in case you couldn't tell.
