I read "any" to highlight/distinguish it as any position.. ie a mid can fill in for a missing forward.
This is very interesting though, especially given the centrebet draft uses the same engine and plays for money. will be watching the autopick entries who ended up with duds closely in round 1.

i would read it as if any player doesnt play in your starting lineup then the lowest score on your bench will be counted and it doesnt matter what position they play. So if you want to play another mid on your bench then you would have to pick 3 bench players that are out as well as a ruck, fwd or back that dont play so you get the extra mids score.
