Thomas has struggled with injury since being drafted from Broadbeach but this year he finally started to put in some solid games during June-August with Collingwood's VFL affiliate. His scores for the season were 45, 76, 72, 56, 84, 64, 56, 121 and 80 (Ave: 72.6). It was interesting to hear recruiting manager Derek Hine say that Kyle Martin would be used as a back up for Luke Ball and Josh Thomas, this suggests Josh is well and truly in their thinking for 2013. I'm not sure if that will translate to significant games but if he stays fit and hits the bubble with a couple of good performances he might be worth a look.

Collingwood Profile from earlier this year - A hard-at-it midfielder who thrives on winning the contested ball. Has won comparisons with 1991 Copeland Trophy winner Tony Francis courtesy of some promising performances at VFL level. Like Francis, he is a ball magnet and a tackling machine around the stoppages, and has a handy turn of speed over the first 15 metres. Has unfortunately been struck down by leg and foot injuries in his first two seasons at the club, and will be looking to stay out of the medical room and on the park in 2012. With fellow midfielder Luke Ball a key figure at the club, Thomas has the perfect role model to look up to.
