After a down year in 2012 Michael Hurley (with D/F DPP) is shaping up as a good mid price target in 2013. Unfortunately for him there is a lot of competition in and below his price range. There is a plethora of cheap forward options going into 2013, and so far the list is growing faster than the players on it are being ruled out.

At 388k Michael is in a very awkward price range, he isn't quite a premium forward but he isn't quite cheap enough to be a cash cow. You can only pick him if you think he'll average 90 and become a keeper. Around his price range are players like Christensen, Cloke, Monfries and Darling with players like LeCras and Bock offering similar scoring potential for a significantly lower price tag.

Aside from the fierce competition for forward spots, there are question marks over durability and role for Michael in 2013. We all know he is a capable player, but being constantly moved from the forward line to the back line will surely influence his game and result in numerous disappointing scores. He has battled injury issues for his entire career as well, the crash and bash nature of his game resulting in a lot of collision injuries and after 4 seasons in the big league is yet to play 20 games or more in a home and away season.

Not for me, too much risk and the payoff doesn't seem to be worth it. He's still a decent option and if he provides a D/F link could prove invaluable.

Prediction: +11 84.

Your profiles are premium and don't you forget it! :)

I'm actually thinking of updating this template because I'm not happy with this standard... :S If I do might release this one although dunno if anyone would use it. Or need me to release it. :-X

Yeah, great write up as always.

I wont be going near with Hurley with the guys you mentioned having more scoring potential for the same price or cheaper.

If I'm not mistaken Hurley originally came to Essendon as a backfield player and I sense that is where he belongs.  I won't be surprised to see him play most of this year at CHB with the occasional foray up forward, and I think he'll be happy there. I have him in my team at present and he'll probably stay there. His DPP status is a bonus.  I may be wrong but I think that, barring injuries, this is the year Hurley will finally rip it apart.

Does he score more playing CHB than forward?
