After reading through this article http://www.heraldsun.com.au/afl/more-news/no-honeymoon-at-carlton-for-mick-malthouse/story-e6frf9jf-1226501886598
It says Carlton's first 5 round of 2013 will look like this
Rd1 Richmond
Rd2 Collingwood
Rd3 West Coast
Rd4 Geelong
Rd5 Adelaide

Murphy, Judd, Robinson, Gibbs, Scotland and Yarran all look like good DT options but if they have a tough start of the season, maybe they would be better upgrade targets.
What are your thoughts?

JBs-Hawks

Scooter the only quality tagger there so I'll still be jumping on murph.

Hmm, Robbo still averaged a solid 88 against those teams this year, he is still a lock.

Murphy having shoulder + knee surgery, and the tough draw will likely make him an upgrade target...I think.

Gibbs is definitely a lock no matter what.

Scotland was always an upgrade target.

Wasnt considering Yarran, and definitely not Judd.

Yer doesn't really worry me about Murphy. Is a proven gun, but will make me think twice about Yarran

Yarran is definitely more of an SC'er anyway :P

Gibbs is locked even if mid only. Murphy is undervalued so even if he starts slow he should go up in value. Guys like robbo will now be upgrade targets. As he is priced at what he is worth.

Robbo was actually averaging 100ish before his late season injury...underpriced IMO.

PowerBug

The good players step up against the good teams. ;)

Just take GAJ for an offthetopofmyhead example: vs GWS 100odd, vs Collingwood 170odd.
Dane Swan picked up 170s in both matches vs Essendon last season, the first one was when Essendon were undefeated.
Lance Franklin apparently had a tough opening 6 rounds, did he drop in value by a considerable amount by rd 7?

I think the early tough draw is more of a reason to pick up the guns, as they play better.

Players like Bastinac are the ones who beat up on GWS/GC types. Super premiums perform well against quality opposition.

bad call on basti sure he got his best score and his 4th best on GWS. But he scored only 67 and 76 on GC. He got 5 tons this year and 2 of them were gellong and collingwood.

A good example would be stevie J, if he is playing GC GWS or Melbourne you would almost put him captain over Swanny. I think he must average something like 150 against those teams in the last 2 years.

If Gellong have a few of those guys early than he is a lock.

2011
Stevie J vs Gold Coast = 171
Stevie J vs Melbourne = 171

2012
Stevie J vs GWS = 150

Im locking him in if he plays one of those teams before their bye.

He also has a great record against Collingwood, with his last 4 scores against them being: 127, 119, 95, and 137.

Hagebear

Yeh I'll back Murph in v those teams!

henry

Doesn't change my opinion on Murphy and Gibbs, they are both still locked.

Shihan7

Gibbs is still a mega lock...Robbo is in my side, but still not sure...Murphy having the round 13 bye is a definite no-no for me.

the few weeks before the bye are harder than the start. hawks in r12, bombers in r11 and gws in round 10
