The Gold Coast SUNS have secured selection one in the 2012 trade incentive mini-draft and will select boom West Australian youngster Jack Martin.

Through the same drafting mechanism that saw the SUNS draft Jaeger O'Meara last year, Martin is set to be drafted with the first pick following the trade period.

Martin, a classy goal kicking midfielder, excelled for Western Australia during the Under 18 championships.

Most recruiters believe Martin is on par with likely No.1 draft pick Lachie Whitfield, and his acquisition will be a major boost for the SUNS.

To secure the deal, the SUNS have exchanged its first selection (two) in the 2012 NAB AFL draft for selection one in the 2012 GWS GIANTS mini-draft.

The SUNS and Giants have also exchanged compensations picks, that will see the SUNS gain a compensation pick that can be used through until the 2015 draft.

*Similar to Jaeger O'Meara last year, Jack Martin will not be able to play Senior AFL until 2014.

Why give up pick 2?!? He may be good, but only helps GWS out!

why not?

they're doing what's best for their club, not just trying to shaft other clubs....

What's best for both clubs would be to use these early picks and consessons to get senior players, but I'm starting to think they just don't care about the next two years or how many games they win, which is tanking and also wrong, time to take their licences away and give Tassie a go! These two clubs are a discrace!

it's not tanking mate... it's rebuilding... they're setting themselves up for the best possible future, not purposely destroying their current team to tank.

Every week a best 22 will be put out on the field, barring injury (or resting if they're against like top 4 sides). They're not ging to be playing for picks.

Also if GC skipped and say Melb did too then what would happen?

I don't get why GWS get these pools, but GC missed out? Wtf is with that.

I can only see that the AFL thinks AFL is so down in the dumps in NSW they need to do anything they can to get GWS up the top.

CrowsFan

Zip how can you say a team is rebuilding when it has only been around for 1 or 2 seasons? ???
