Dees claim Viney with second round pick

MELBOURNE has secured Jack Viney - the son of Melbourne great Todd - via the father/son rule.

The 18-year-old was one of the most sought after players in this year’s NAB AFL Draft.

In the lead-up to Monday morning’s father/son meeting at Etihad Stadium, Greater Western Sydney and particularly Gold Coast Suns were reportedly interested in recruiting the powerful youngster.

But the Demons locked in Viney, when they successfully gained him via the father/son bidding system.

An outstanding young junior player, Viney is a left-footed inside midfielder, whose attack on the ball is ferocious for his age and size.

His father Todd, the club’s general manager of player development and strategy, will now officially call his name out in the November NAB AFL Draft.
