What Does GC Have To Do, To Be Competitive in 2013?

I agree with PB generally. I think their biggest problem has been depth. They are starting to put together a quality core midfield, but at the moment they have maybe 3 - 4 genuine top class mids, where good teams might have 8 - 12 blokes running through there.  I'd say another preseason and they will win a few more.

GC will have a good midfield next year
Ablett, Rischetlli, Swallow, O'Meara, Horsley, Presita, Iles, Caddy, Shaw and McKenzie. Then you have guys like Hunt, Bennell, Harbrow and Brennan who could all get midfield time next year.

They just need to develop there young key forwards such as Dixon, Lynch and Day. Dixon would need to drop 5-6 kilos to even think of getting a weekly gig in that side he currently weighs in at 101 kilos.

Yes second year blues have been sort of it.

GWS has won 1 game and that was against the GC (which they should of not won). Gold Coast will win 1-2 more games this year.

GWS need to recruit some decent experience next year or they will do worse than the GC... By a lot.

I would suggest they stop trading draft picks (18ry olds) for pre-draft 17yr olds would be a good start, thought they might have enough teenagers on their list?

or are the big wigs saying they got the initial draft (2010) wrong now they need to get guys like O'Meara and Jack Martin?

memo to the Gold Coast board: you don't need 17yr olds you need 25yr olds, what are you doing up there?

The foundations to be competative are there. Recruiting a mature key forward would help massively!

Team
Full backs- Tape Warnock stanley
Half backs- McKenzie Bock Harbrow
Wings-Caddy Rischitelli Brennan
Half forwards- Prestia Day Bennell
Full forwards-Matera Lynch Dixon
Rucks-Smith Ablett Swallow

Bench Hunt, Brown, O'Meara sub Iles
Emer Russell Shaw May/Toy

Only place they lack depth in is quality talls as fraser is the only real standout i havent listed. Their kpp's are all young and developing. Mature kpp's should be high on the priority list

That's a solid team and should be good next year. Swap Dixon with Stanley and it looks legit. Also maybe Brown out and Shaw/Russell in.

Also Josh Fraser will retire and the GC might recruit Grundy as their number 2 or 3 pick.

Gonna be interesting to see mate :) i reckon we are in a great period of afl history. The development of the suns and giants have brought a great edge in excitement to the league. Will be great to watch the improvement for the Suns over the next few years :) if they get Grundy and maybe another mature forward (maybe tippett) they will win 8-12 games next year.

Heard a rumour that GC were one of the leading clubs for Jack Martin.

imo they need to stop relying on Ablett all the time :)

Hahaha good point man, i'm sure with the inclusion of O'meara and a fully fit swallow in 2013 the weight will be lifted off gazzas shoulders. Ablett, Swallow and O'meara are going to be a scary proposition for teams In the coming years
