MICHAEL Walters' amazing career turnaround has continued, with the Fremantle small forward signing a two-year contract extension with the club.

Walters was banished to WAFL club Swan Districts in January this year, after failing to meet the standards expected by new Fremantle coach Ross Lyon.

He returned to training with his AFL team in April, but didn't appear in his first senior match of the season until round 16.

From that point on, the 21-year-old was a revelation, providing spark and energy as he played the final 10 games, booting 22 goals.

Fremantle's general manager of player management Brad Lloyd said the new deal was reward for Walters' effort this year.

"Michael's become an important player for the team and we look forward to a successful contribution from him again in 2013," Lloyd said.

The new contract ties Walters to Fremantle until the end of the 2014 season.

His career tally now stands at 21 games, after being selected at pick 53 in the 2008 NAB AFL Draft.

After getting his chance late this year he took it with both hands and ran with it.

After getting his chance late this year he took it with both hands and ran with it.

He is finally showing what most Freo supporters knew he could do.
