Thanks a lot for your help guys. Everything said has been very useful to me. If there aren't any forward rookies picked in the first round i might have to load the forward line with mid pricers e.g Knights, Byrnes, Varcoe and weaken my midfield or defense. It may be the only option.

what about mayes (brisbane)? staker being out may help his cause....

You'd think he'd need a good stint in the WAFL before being considered. We'll see how he goes on Saturday.
Matt DeBoer was pumping his tyres saying he was "in the mix" and speaking as if he was a soda for best 22. Not saying that will be the case but is consistently well regarded. He'll have to have a blinder of a NAB cup but Broughton's spot is up for grabs.

Is there a reason Joe Daniher is not mentioned here?

It is hard to tell with rookies this year because we don't have a club starting like GWS did last year!
You won't be able to tell which rookies are going to be picked till the Thursday night before the first round. But still do your homework during the NAB cup so you can see which rookies have good scoring potential and job security....

Didnt want to release this guy but im sure if he will need to post a good nab to play and than he will be on people radars anyway.

Tom Curran from North FWD/BACK was good in our intra club match yesterday.

Stringer, Mayes, Menzel, Jaksch, Neade, Kerridge, Lee, Membrey, Kennedy, Paparone, McDonough, Sumner....

I'm sure two or three of those will press for selection.

Agreed. Several of these guys are ones to be looking out for during the NAB Cup. Obviously, it's gonna be harder for some to get games than others and some are pricier than others, but these names are definitely ones to consider. As someone else said, underpriced players like Byrnes, Varcoe, Staker and Macaffer are all options worth looking at as well.

+1 Back to the good old days, yet it should be easier with the extra trades to burn. McInnes is another one from left field, may get a couple early with nic nat out but js would be shaky at best. All eyes on the Nab.

Paparone heads the FWD rook watchlist for me. Apparently shown great endurance and running ability so far in the preseason - that coupled with his size and versatility to play forward or back will give him a good chance at early games. Combine that with Staker's injury? Has a bench spot in my squad pending NAB performance.
