On the 11th of June 1997 at 6pm, after spending the last 40 hours in bed with the flu unable to sit up or move, after being told there was no way he would be able to play Michael Jordan walked out on to the Delta Centre in Utah, looking pale and visibly weak, for game 5 of the 1997 NBA finals.

Michael Jordan played one of the greatest and most memorable games of his legendary career, shocking the Jazz, the Utah fans and his own Chicago Bulls.  When the final buzzer rang, Jordan had 38 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and 1 block next to his name in 44 minutes on the court, including the free throw that tied the game at 85-85 with 46.5 seconds left in the fourth quarter and then the three-pointer that won Chicago the game with 25 seconds left on the clock.  Jordan's 'Flu game' gave Chicago a 3-2 lead in the '97 NBA finals, a series they won 4-2 in Chicago two days later.  Jordan's flu game turned the tide of the series (Utah had won the last 2 games) and is still renowned today as one of the greatest games anyone has ever played.

Tonight, 15 years after Jordan's performance, the superstar of the AFL, Gary Ablett will take to the field (hopefully) at 7:40pm after suffering from a flu all week; hopefully for those of us playing opponents who don't have the great man as captain, Gaz can play a game similar to that of Jordan's 15 years ago, and can lead us all to victories in our preliminary finals.
