What is the point in beating GC today?

Yes yes, with all the media highlighting the tanking issue, it may be hard for the dees to lose this one, but honestly, why would they want to win it?

GC beats dees
GC beats GWS next week (can't control, but have to assume)
GWS beats dees in a few weeks. (can control)

Bottom of the ladder looks like:

-GC
-GWS
-Dees

And they get picks 1 and 2 and can use pick 24 for father son.

Then they have picks 1,2 and 15 which should set them up for finals in 2-3 years time if this draft lives up to all of its hype.

what you're doing is saying that they should not play their best, which surmounts to the same thing as tanking.

Yes, I am aware... I personally don't care about tanking for strategic purposes (only other purpose I guess is for betting/money) but you know...the whole AFL does so it may be a little hard to fake this season :P

I can as frustrated as anyone when melbourne lose, ask ossie85, and yes TBH it probably would have been better if we had lost (for the draft position), but you know what? I am very pleased we won. So what, we don't get draft picks 1 & 2, instead we get 3 & 4, they are still quality picks. And I really think melbourne is gonna get Viney in the mid 20's anyway, it really looks like Melbourne will call GWS and GC's bluff for Viney. And no matter where we finish, we are gonna get draft pick number 13, so if we get Viney in the mid 20's no matter where we finish, the only thing losing would have done for us is get picks 1 & 2 instead of 3 & 4, at the cost for the remainder of our respect.

But in saying that, if melb lost today, I wouldn't have been to fussed  :P
