There is a bit of truth in this. McEvoy is regarded around the club as an quality endurance runner, good mark and strong when going forward or back, but he is regularly beaten at stoppages. He is still the best ruck option at the Saints, but has some work to do to match it with the top ruckman going around.

McEvoy is 19th overall in hitouts per game this season with 23.2, behind both Cox and Naitanui who have been sharing the ruck work pretty much evenly this year. Considering that he does about 80% of St Kilda's ruck work, that is pretty poor. Looks like you have a point.

On the other hand, ruckmen take a long time to develop and McEvoy only just turned 23, it may be a little early to compare him to the best ruckmen in the competition who are mostly over 25 (except for Naitanui, who is just a freak  ;D ).
