Well as Im sure all the Melbourne supporters such as myself choose not to speak about the months ranging from late March to September, we LOVE and look forward to the off-season, where we rule the draft, players are traded, received and sacked, as well as coaches. So I ask you this fellow resilient Melbourne fans......... who is gonna make March-September better?

I know these players are out of contract:

Travis Cloke....... bet nobody knew that  :P
Dayne Beams
Travis Boak
Brendon Goddard
Leigh Montagna
and many others......

Who should melbourne get? Who shouldn't we get? How would they contribute? What area in our team needs a boost? Should we trade? Who should we trade? Should we use the compensation picks or trade them? Who should we draft? Have you heard any clues to our potential recruiting?

What we need:

A rebounding defender
A Star midfielder

From this we should chase

Brendon Goddard

(Don't see us standing a chance of luring any of the others)

Don't get

Travis Boak

Draft

Considering our draft picks as of now (use the compo picks)

- Pick #3 - Jack Viney

- Pick #4 - Brodie Grundy/Jonathan O'Rourke (Assuming Whitfield and Stringer go at #1 and #2)

- Pick #13 - Sam Mayes/Ben Kennedy (Doubtful that they will last that long)

I barely know a thing about Travis Boak if im honest....... what part of him wouldn't suit melbourne? Is he another inside midfielder or does he lack polish as an outside midfielder? Or would he not just fit in the side because of the way he plays?

I think its more to do with the fact that he cannot handle a tag. Therefore since we do not have a midfielder who would be tagged before him he would once again be effected by that. Although having him would free up Moloney.

I think though if we can get 3 of Viney, Grundy, O'Rourke, Kennedy and Mayes then we will be very good in the next few years. Personally  would like Viney, O'Rourke and Mayes.

Boak will either stay or go to the cats, not worth looking at IMO

Cloke will either stay at the pies or go to Freo, not Melbourne.
The Dees wont want Cloke and Mitchell Clark in the forwards

Goddard will either stay at the aints or get some cash and move to Breakfast point.
Although the Dees are maybe going to use one of their 1st round draft picks for a prem

From what I've seen at Melbourne they don't need more draft picks

About 80% of them have been sub-par, par, left, or completely useless. Whether it's the recruiting or development staff it doesn't really matter but they need some class to create competition for other spots. Neild is doing his best but some players shouldn't really be getting games at AFL level yet who are.

IMO, they need to make a big move with their draft picks. Who's to say that any of those top 15 draft picks are going to give Melbourne anything? Imagine what they could of got if they had used the Sculley pick in a trade instead (not that they should of)

As to who to get, not Cloke. He won't really work with Clark and it would cost them a lot. They need 3-4 not premium but solid players, of which at least 2 need to be midfielders like Moloney and Magner. Boak would actually be a good option as he wouldn't get tagged.

Word flying round that we will do the following concerning draft picks.

Use pick 3 in the draft on (Not on Viney) - If GC or GWS choose to bid for him, we will call their bluff and take one of the two they want (Whitfield or Grundy). If they choose not to bid for him and take Whitfield and Grundy, we can take one of Toumpas, Stringer or Wines.

Pick 4 - Traded for: (a) a gun experienced player or (b) For the mini draft pick number 1 pick (Jack Martin or Jesse Hogan expected)

Pick 13 - Use on another player in the draft. Potentially one of Kennedy/O'Rourke

2nd Round Pick - Jack Viney (If GC and GWS do not bid for him.

Yeah I heard that melbourne aren't too keen to use pick three on viney.

If we dont get viney at number 3, I know melbourne would have made the right decision, because it would mean he simply didn't display top five pick  potential

Apparently GWS aren't keen on Viney but the same can't be said for GC, as they are looking for a very good contested player.

So what if one of the clubs that has a pick between picks 5 and 12 bids for Viney. Wouldn't Melbourne then need to use pick 13 if they want him? Or am I mistaken on how it works?

Compo picks dont count in terms of F/S selections therefore after our first round pick (pick 3) of GC and GWS dont take Viney then we get first dibs again with our second round pick.
