yeah in the West Australian paper on Thursday it said that Geelong had the most number of debutantes
of any team in the league this year

you sure? I've counted the pies as having 7 debuts, while the cats have only had 6 (including 2 against gws...)

Collingwood 7 and Geelong 8 .. Lincoln Murdoch, Jonathon Simpkin, Jessie Stringer, Jordan Schroder, George Horlin-Smith, Oren Stephenson, Billy Smedts and Lincoln McCarthy

to be fair, the argument was that no other club could have debuted that many players and still do as well, when schroder and mccarthy debuted and only played one game against gws. The pies are far more impressive, having had almost as many new players, and sitting equal first on the ladder.

That's a fair point but I think most people see Geelong as currently going through more of a rebuild period than Collingwood .. we have had greater losses of personnel than Collingwood with Rooke, Ablett, Mooney, Milburn, Ling & Ottens going in recent times .. also we've not only played a large number of debutantes but also have a significant group of 2/3 year players in Duncan, Menzel (inj), Guthrie, Christensen, Motlop, T.Hunt, M.Brown, Simpson, Gillies all playing roles in 2012 .. even add Trent West to that list as he's also very inexperienced

I'm sure someone said on TV the other day that Josh Bootsma is the only player to debut for Carlton this season. They are at the stage where they believe the team they have will get them a premiership. You still need to blood new players though to maintain depth to cover injuries.
Geelong seem to have pretty good depth. I'm looking forward to next week. Collingwood on the rebound will be an enormous challenge.
Assuming we win today, we will have a 2 game break over the teams underneath us, which we may need.

Cats heading in the right direction by taking their debutant total for 2012 to 10 with the inclusions of Josh Walker and Jackson Sheringham for this weeks game against Collingwood .. Walker is only 19 and Sheringham is 24 .. fantastic to see even though it's big ask for youngsters against formidable opposition .. Go Cats

It's all about giving them game time. They could easilly have played more experienced players, but they need to get games into these guys to see if they can cut it. There's every possibility that next season we will lose Scarlet, Joel Corey, Wojo, and possibly Enright. If Pods doesn't get back into the team that may be the end of him to. Next season will be year 1 of the next generation.
