 :) ;) ;D 8)

After reading some highly informed and magnificently researched threads on bye strategy here at FF I still wonder at SCs most basic fundamental. Everything comes down to the highest possible amount of points scored. Which in your opinion is the best way to achieve this ? If it's building up cashcows and trading to avoid " doughnuts " during the byes and perhaps even using 6 to 9 trades to achieve this then how many points may be lost waiting for the byes ? Also lost in this method is price bargain choice, in that a player is chosen purely on bye availlability and form. Lost is the opportunity to get players on the cheap as they must be traded in at a specific round. Having said all that, it could very well work BUT
Sabres are trying something different. Have used 13 trades, have 358.8k in salary cap and a team that should average 2400 upwards (hopefully). 3 trades for the byes, 2 for season ending injuries and 8 for the last 8 rounds is the plan. Going to just let the byes happen but trade as well as possible to make up for this. Hmmm suicide or a simple solution only luck and time will tell. Whatever you all go for, the very best of luck and have some fun. Feel very free to shoot me down on any angle and all suggestions are extremely welcome. How long before J Redden starts killing them again Ringo ? Reckon it's only a matter of time.

I feel pain the people who hage Goddard,Scotland and lids all sharing the same bye!! (im in the same boat) not sure if i should cop a couple of donuts rather than trading 3 of the biggest and best backmen???? i would havte to trade any of those 3 for the likes of brougton or a heppell and be stuck with them for the rest of the year.

I'll be doing the exact same thing mate, with too many people concerned about the donuts in the bye period, they will sideways trade to cover and I say go for it at your peril.

The question I pose in response is: How many points/cash is a trade worth?

With a good structure and continuing to solely make trades for upgrades, downgrades and injuries, I believe it will produce more gain in the long term for what will seem like pain the short term. Only time will tell...

In a perfect world ( scary thought ) I wouldn't trade unless I thought it would increase my weekly score by at least 20 points. In a monetary sense the only answer I can come up with (and it's a bit lame duck) is that it's worth what you can afford but keeping a little in hand. Sorry can't show any mathematical genius in this one, probably got me stuffed as well. Cheers.

Yeh, on a side note, I think we need to see more info (like the starting side and full trading history) of the eventual winner.  I've not seen this previously, so I'm not sure how the winner gets there... anyone know (with solid detail)?

WRT ur comment: I'm opting for a middle ground.  I'm not ignoring byes.  I've planned for the minimum 2 dog nuts using 6 trades over the 3 weeks.  However, none of these 6 trades will be sideways trades - all the usual upgrade/downgrade trades for maximum benefit.  The only restriction here is exactly what you pointed out: e.g. waiting till after round 12 to trade out Ellis for a round 11/12 bye player - and potentially offloading him before or after his peak and potentially missing out on a bargain.  In this respect, I may sacrifice 1-2 more dog nuts over the bye rounds in order to capitalise on players as I see fit.

I think people should check their 3 opponents that they have in each of the bye rounds before deciding which way to go. My first 2 are near the bottom of the ladder so I could get to round 13 without having used any trades and tank my last opponent, keeping my team how it is and using zero trades over the 3 rounds still winning 2 of the 3 games.

AND also if its feasible to do the 8/11/11 structure or something similar with your team on hand.  I think it would take 3 trades just to get my bye structure correct and then 6 used over the byes so 9 in total and your team has changed completely just to save donuts. No thanks too much hard work! I have only 12 left after trading out murphy and tomlinson for stanton and zorko.

depends if your playing for overall or league, if league then just totally ignore the three byes and write those league rounds off, or maybe try and just have most players out in one of the rounds.

i won't be making any sideways trades, where i have 3 premiums in one line i'll just be eating the donut.

but i will be holding off trading up and down on certain rooks until during the byes to do "trades i would do anyway" during the byes and thus avoiding most donuts.

very little difference in pricing for example i'll be holding ellis until round 12 then trading out, avoids a donut in 13 and he won't change in price much by then, actually probably go back up by then.

The point is valid regarding missing premium upgrades at bottom dollar, but i am wary of picking up players at bottom dollar, 99% of the time you bottom out by playing shower, amazes me why people can't wait to get on players in shower form....

Good luck to all.

I'll get through pretty unscathed but i have decided to wear a couple of "extra" donuts over the byes as I am not prepared to trade a rook to a rook and then trade the new rook to another player just to avoid a donut, effectively using 2 trades per rook to upgrade once saves a donut but uses a trade for no other gain.

I could do this 4 times with 4 rooks to make 4 upgrades using 8 trades ( wasting 4 trades) saving 4 donuts. But I won't be.

guessing the new rooks score 60 each, the 4 donuts cost me 240 points (over 3 rounds) but SAVE me 4 trades.
