is it too risky or worth it?

Sounds okay for short term, but if you think about it you are using 4 trades and you are only gaining 1 extra gun.

im actually looking at doing a similar thing and getting the mpp with treloar saves me doing a trade during bye rounds and actually helps sets my team up quicker. if it does a similar thing for yours i say go for it

Only issue I have is you probably are culling shiel to early but I guess you have to.

Whilst you are using 4 trades and getting 1 extra premo you are getting two new cows who look to fatten nicely, I see it like this
Option 1: bench Ablett and field rookie save trade lose points
Option 2: sideways Ablett lose a trade and retain points
Option 3: do what you have suggested  in two weeks shouldn't of lost points lost 1 trade but have an extra premo and two new cows
