Just considering GAJ.  I've really tried to go only for players that will hold or increase their values this year.

GAJ has been my exception, but I wonder if it's not better to wait, let his price drop, because I can't see him keeping up the 140 average, and then get him in.

I'm only playing for finals, although, I'd like to get the highest ranking possible.

What are people's opinions?

the way i see it, not getting him in at the start is a risky proposition. i know blokes who tried to wait and get him cheaper, then they got injuries and just couldn't manage to get him at all. they were just not competitive in my league. it reduced their teams to a non threat. if he gets injured it might pay off, but if he doesn't, he will match his average from last year. you watch

THE WARDEN

i tried starting the season without him last year and found myself 1-3 until i traded for him. won the next 7 and finished third just missing out on the granny. he'll come down a bit but go up again when he gets more games under his belt. gota have him

toodledock

might go without and grab him when he plays one bad or avg game

I started without him and suffered with injuries :'( Could not get him for finals. Swan got me into a GF.

Never again!

If you don't get him at the start it could end your season. Be very careful. One mistake could end it. Think about that for a minute. All your planning.....for nothing.....

Wilkopolis

Sure he'll have an average (and by that I mean score 100 instead of 140) game at some stage during the season.  The question is - how many 140+ games will he pull before this happens.  Every one of them will likely lose you a league game.

I was thinking along similar lines this time last year and left him out of my starting team.  After rd 1 I knew I had made the wrong decision and traded him in immediately.  It cost 2 trades and Joel Selwood - but it was still the right decision.

This year I'll start Ablett and keep the two trades  ;)

I did the same thing. Raines getting injured in rd 1 ended up being a blessing because I traded him out for Cheney which freed up enough cash to upgrade wells to ablett. I watched ablett and wells play in that first round and knew what had to do. This time he's in from day 1 and I can just save myself a big headache

I had him in last year.  You had to because Geelong were going to do well.

He's worth more this year, and I don't expect he'll replicate his average.

You don't need him from the start.

Last year i didn't get him in until about round 10 or so and i finished in the top 1500 and won all 3 leagues only losing a handfull of games in all 3 leagues put together.

But having said that, you do need him at some stage.

I think if you want him you have him at the start and keep him, and if he has a major injury (which hasn't happened yet) and say he is worth 600k you can then trade him and get another gun midfielder and then you have heap of cash left over for your other trades - thats how i look at it when choosing some of the guns.
But yes he is worth having and he is very consistant.

Blueboys

I am getting him for sure, I am sure the price will go up and down but if you have him from the start you are not going to trade him so who cares. (Just to save a few bucks lol)

Also makes the captian choice so much easy....

Teams with out him will be going on and on about it and asking why they didn't have him from the start, like last year! hahahahha

GAJ really depends on what you're going for.

If you're going overall - he's required as a captain from the start.

If you're playing for the league - he's required for finals, and you can either get him in early and get the bonus points, or leave him and save some money.

gday - bit of dejavou here! this debate has been forever going and it has even got more interesting due to GAJ going up even further in price.
i started him last year loved it, got injuries left right and center and he was a beacon of light - i actually used him to trade in lukey power when he got real cheap at a time rich was smashing his break even- and in 2 weeks time traded out rich for GAJ - haha i lost those 2 rounds!! due to poor captain choice pretty much. doesn't matter if he was 800k - he HAS to be in. all it means is u really gotta pick the underpriced prems?? u have a punt on some prems in the 400k zone - simple i don't see how its all a big issue - u rake in double with him 4 captain - save urselves a trade and grief and start him in - just means a swan or a murphy is a bloke around 500k i think its easy to work around
