posting some decent scores preseason and we all know hawthorns high possesion game coming out of defense. at roughly 300k, what are people's thoughts on him R Schoenmakers? (hope i havnt exposed anyone's smokey).

he is also a first round draft pick i believe.

So far in his career he has increased his DT average by 10 points a year and had a few games in the 80's last season. I don't think he'd be the worst pick around that price range. Duffield at $347,200 and Gilbert at $345,600 have higher ceilings and could be options but come with their own risks.

The question is whether he stays in the team.

Historically he is a massive choker in defence, and has even cost Hawthorn a few games.
I personally think he plays better up forward where he doesn't have the pressure.

He has very good kicking skills, but he's a massive victim of the yips, and makes some poor decisions when under average pressure.

That said, it seems nobody has any concern in kicking the ball to him, and given the fact it's irrelevant how effective his kicks are, he could still be good for DT.

I think once Hawthorns defence is back from injury, Schoenmakers will be playing in the VFL...but I could be wrong.

Cops a bit of flak from a few Hawks fans at school.

Posting up good numbers and seems well suited to Hawthorns game plan.

Still, his about 40K dearer than what I'd call a well calculated punt. Such as Hargrave.

I think Murphy is healthy, but once Stratton is back I'm not sure if he'll get edged out.

He cops flak because he made a fair few costly mistakes in defence last year, which I think is warranted. Hopefully those days are past him now :)
As Windigo says, there are possibly better DT prospects in that price range - although they all come with their cons  :-\
