Okay so I know this is akin to DT blasphemy, but I was thinking about my backline earlier, which is giving me massive headaches and I saw an article on Hunt killing it in the Suns' intra-club game. In a game of probables v possibles, he impressed in the 'probables' team lining up on the Ball. Now, before you start yelling expletives at your computer and hating on me for even suggesting the thought, hear me out:

    • Listed as a DEF, he is priced at a low $145k so could slot into that 5th/6th position relatively easy
    • Recent reports out of the Suns camp have him impressing in the midfield alongside Ablett, Swallow and Smith - he's getting big wraps for his ability to find the ball in contested situations and simultaneously get rid of it
    • Hunt himself has come out and declared he much prefers being near the ball as he is 'a more reactive player' indicating he better reacts to the ball than his player as he does in defence
    • For a rookie priced player; if he plays in the mids (likely as an Ablett-protector) he could be great value being a DEF
    • Even if he plays 7/8 decent games for the Suns in the mids, he could potentially avg 70+ and make some valuable $$
    • His fitness and endurance has improved ten-fold from last year, which means he will be much better equipped to handle the rigours of a full AFL season

I am fully aware of the implications of this suggestion and merely am putting it out there to see if there are others who share this view NB: only as a possibility - he is not currently (nor has ever been) in my team. Obviously we will have to wait for the Suns' NAB cup games to see if McKenna will actually play him in the mids. But if he turns out a good showing in the NAB, I bet that many more coaches will take notice.

    Feedback?

Look, watch his nab games to see what role he is playing but I doubt he will make my team despite my requirement for 5 rookie backs.

You honestly think you'll find 5 reliable rookie backs?  Mid pricers may be key this year

I am pretty sure I said 5...?

The F.A.R.K.

Bugg, Ellis, Clarke, Smedts, Brown, Morris, Wilkes, Mohr, Hunt just to name a few then doecherty when he is fit

I actually think Hunt will be a good cash cow this season.

The most interesting thing in the article about Hunt on afl.com.au was that Ablett (arguably the best player in the game) said Hunt had improved out of sight from last season. I think he know what he's talking about.

I wouldn't want to rely on him to score consistently though so if i did get him in it would only be if I thought there weren't better cash cows out there, not as a 5th or 6th back.

A 70 ave is a lot to ask on Hunt after he lost value over the period of last season.

Not for me this year, but I do like the thinking. I honestly wish you good luck if you have the kahunas to select him!!

I watched him a few times last year when they threw him in the middle and he actually looked a lot more comfortable. He got in and under and was able to feed the ball out. What you really need to see him do to be a viable cash cow though is to be able to get a few uncontested marks and kicks around the ground and so far he hasn't been able to find that space.

scotty_222

i like the fact that he will get game time so js isnt an issue.
plus he is playing in the midfield so his score limit is much higher
than him playing a lock down defender.
watch the nab cup i will be, but i saw some of the intra club and he did do very well
20 possies, few marks few kick as well as a goal. he may just do alright this year.
i dont think u are hearing this sort of publicity with any of the other rookes around his price range

picker_man

i would put a little more interest into him but clarke has his spot (thankfully haha)

l am really looking forward to seeing him in the mids during the NAB cup

With a particular eye on his tackling, which could very well be the deciding factor on how many teams he ends up being in

.....he has the potential to be a tackling machine

Still l dont know if l have the guts to pick him

sid3bysid3

Really like him at that price. I'm premming my back line and have limited defense for rooks but think hunt is a great smokey. Saw him play mids for a quarter last year and he looked really good. Lots of clearances... Very, very impressed

alot of ifs, buts and maybes for me to handle, will go a rookie instead
