Thinking of just tanking Round 12. I am only really focusing on Leagues and think this might be the simplest option for a couple of reasons:

1. Some of the best SC teams have bye this round: Collingwood, Geelong and Fremantle.

2. Easier to control trades/upgrades leading into byes with one less round to worry about.

3. Can concentrate from a research point of view, more on the rookies and finding gems (preferably with a late upgrade with r13 bye).

TEAM NAME: Round 12 Stack
DEF: B. Goddard, H. Shaw, G. Broughton, J. Grimes, M. Clarke, B. Ellis, B. Smedts (W. Sierakowski, B. Wilkes)
MID: G. Ablett jnr, D. Swan, J. Selwood, M. Barlow, D. Shiel, D. Zorko (L. Brown, J. McDonald)
RUC: B. McEvoy, N. Naitanui (J. Giles, O. Stephenson)
FWD: L. Franklin, A. Goodes, S. Johnson, M. Pavlich, A. Christensen, A. Saad, J. Cameron (C. Hampton, T. Walsh)
CASH LEFT: $54,600

Bolds are Round 12 bye players

For league, definitely.
Most teams will take their zeroes that round so technically a team that doesnt have zeroes in r12 will probably get an easy win.
Having said that, your theory is still sound.
A mid stack of murphy, ablett, swan and selwood, backs of scotland, lids, god and fisher would survive r12.  R13 would be your bomb out.  Pav, goodes, frank, martin in fwds would be ok too.

Each to his own strategy for the byes and if comfortable so be it.

There have been a number of discussions on byes and the concensus is that the best you can hope for during bye rounds is 2 donuts. You can set up a strong team to do this if you need to.

Here is some discussion on it in my team thread on the last 2 pages if interested.

You have a strong team there overall which I rate 8.5/10

Thought this looked interesting.

As someone who doesn't believe they would win the overall, I think a $1000 would be tidy for playing a free fantasy football game.

So I thought I would take your approach, except try to win round 12 weekly.

Considerations were match ups in round 12 that I expect one team to win easily in (Rich vs GWS, North vs GC, Haw vs Bris, WB vs Port, WCE vs Carl, Adel vs StK), past averages vs those teams (if applicable, and something I haven't researched thoroughly as of yet), likelihood of being rested, being unique incase there are other people with the same idea, and whether or not they have a high 'ceiling' to be able to score heavily anyway.

Here is my team:
Goddard, Birchall, Houli, Hurn, X.Ellis, B.Ellis, Morris (Bugg, Smedts)

Ablett, Mitchell, Swallow, Cotchin, C.Smith, D.Shiel (Kavanagh, Neale)

Leuenberger, McEvoy (Giles, Stephenson)

Franklin, Harvey, Martin, Giansiracusa, Saad, Treloar, Cameron (Walsh, Sexton)

Upgrade targets are:
Brett Deledio
Heath Scotland

Nick Dal Santo
Ryan Griffen

Jack Riewoldt
Drew Petrie
Cyril Rioli

So  will trade heavily, and try to have my team complete before round 12. I have been researching DT a lot and learning about that, so will try for overall in that (save trades etc).

Thought this thread might be easier to post in, couldn't find my team thread, and it is related. Do people think round 12 or round 13 is a better bye round to target??
