Thanks for the advice Colli, Ringo.

At this stage I'm happy to have Scotland and Fisher in the team to begin with as they should both score well and are unique. Goddard will be one of my first upgrades I would think.

I agree with your comments about Pav an Fyfe. I am anticipating having both in my side eventually so I reckon they are the perfect upgrade targets considering the Dockers difficult draw at the start of the season playing 6 of last years finalists in the first 9 rounds.

I think it's very possible for a rejuvenated Chapman to score just as well as Pav, don't you? Also the Cats only play 3 of last years finalists before their bye hence why I think it is reasonable to start him.

I agree your team is good but look out for round 13.

If you get your proposed upgrade targets you could be missing - Scotland / Allen (if still there) / Fisher / Goddard / Lids / Newman and GAJ / Murphy from the mids.

IF Goddard is a must, why not get him now instead of Fisher who is not?

I will not have all the round 13 bye prems in my backline before the byes. I will only add one of them before then. The other two I will bring in after the byes.

I would love to have Goddard instead of Fisher but unfortunately can't squeeze him in without making multiple changes.

I could do this however

IN: Goddard, Newman

OUT: Scotland, Fisher

I'm just a little bit worried about Newman and the Tigers difficult draw for the first 10 rounds of the season playing against every side that played finals last year.

There is a school of thought that defenders get more chance to influence a game when they are being bombarded, and hence get higher scores, since they are near the ball the whole time.

If this is true, then Newman / Lids / Birchall may be worth getting early since they'll have plenty chances to get their hands on it.

What do you think of that?

ben_020285

Yeah that certainly makes sense mate.

I have found that usually when you add up the average scores of players in winning and losing sides, they more often than not have a better average in a winning side, defenders included. However I just did the math on Newman last year and turns out that if you take out the game in which he was injured early against Geelong he actually averaged better in a losing side.

That now makes me think that Goddard and Newman may certainly be a better option than Scotland and Fisher.

Thanks for your help mate.

You would be crazy not to roll into the season without goddard... Had an awful season last year scoring wise for his standards so can only imagine it will improve.

Every year people start the season saying they won't put goddard in their team and every year he tops the scoring chart for defenders.

It's more of a risk to not have him, one not worth takin in my opinion!

Looks good though.

yea mate GOD is a must, you are picking scotland who i think has jsut hit around the 100 average mark where GOD has scored 130ppg!!! GOD younger - gotta pick him is underpriced IMO.

and i see whats going on picking swan but i wouldn't sacrifice jelwood! but i don't have barlow so decision is easier for me!

one concern mate is chappy, goodesy and zaha in your forward line share the same bye and smedts if you don't upgrade.  i'm presuming you are thinking of using dpp - but you will have swan and barlow out in mids as well!
unless you want to sideways tade

ben_020285

Yeah mate, Goddard is in.

I'm all over the byes. Going to make sure that I have a maximum of 3 players on one line from each of the round 12 and round 13 bye groups once the byes come round to ensure that I only get the mandatory one donut during both those rounds. This will involve careful trading to ensure that I'm able to get that setup organised.

Round 11: Two backs from round 11 bye group, two rucks, two mids, two fwds = 0 donuts

Round 12: Three forwards from round 12 bye group, one in ruck, two in mids and two in def = 1 donut

Round 13: Three backs from round 13 bye group, one in ruck, two in mids and two in fwds = 1 donut

There is no way of avoiding 2 donuts.
