Sounds good at first but...

I can trade Scotland and Horsely to Bootsma and Swan this week.
At first, I thought this was an awesome trade but then I realised it leaves me with a few problems.
Firstly, it leaves me with 5 rookie backs which, at this stage of the season, is surely a horrible place to be.
Secondly, if gives me Stanton, Selwood and Swan all out in round 12.
Do I make this move?

Rookies in bold.

Def: Lids, Scotland, Goddard, Shaw, Broughton, Morris, Ellis, Townsend, Spurr

Mid: Stanton, Ablett, Mitchell, Selwood, Rockliff, Horsely, Smith, McDonald

Ruc: Maric, Giles, Stephenson, Redden

For: Sidebottom, Buddy, Chappy, Danger, Martin, ROK, Hall, Smith, Zorko

Cash: $78,300, Trades: 14

Mr.Craig

I'd be inclined to say no. Sideways Scotland (to Suckles?) and then downgrade Morris or Ellis to S.Shaw next week maybe? I know that might leave you a bit short of picking up a good mid premium but downgrading a premium to a rookie just feels like such a backwards step.

betch ya

i dont like trading out premiums for a short term injury - he has his court cases comin up he probably would have had a week off anyway. Paired with the the bye there could be two games uninjured. i think he's worth holding, mayb downgrade Jmac to someone (not sure who tho sorry) and upgrade a morris or somethin to help out the backline. you have a good midfield as it is to cope with the byes this round and also not having pendles is an advantage for this round.

scotland to birch
downgrade smith in the fwds., they can take the pain better than your backs

if not enough maybe Scotto to Dan Nicho? that would be brave ;)

If I were you LaHug I would play Morris for the next few rounds until Scotland comes back. You know Morris is going to play each round as his JS is good and he has the same bye as Scotland. You might only lose 30 to 40 points a round until Scotland is back

Then in round 13 I would sell Horsley (if he doesn't play he won't drop in price) and D.Smith in forward line to free up the cash for Thommo who would have dropped below $500K

My thoughts anyway......

A lot depends upon your priorities which are detemined by your goals.

ie overall vs league.

If league, then it depends where you are on the ladder.

eg I am 8th but playing 7th with 9th the following week. I need to win these two '8 point games' to get to finals so am going all out.

"Consolation 'winner' " = loser - in my book.

Old man's calf is a worry, so without knowing your situation I'd go for it.

Yeah, I would be tempted to wait until after R12 before pulling the trigger on Swan - you have good enough cover this week if you are prepared to accept a donut in the mids. If not, old-Mact to Sexton.
Swan's b/e is high enough that he will drop a few $$$$ if he plays this w/e.
Would let Bootsma slip through and maybe look at Sam Shaw if you need a downgrade.

I like this response from Ric

Scotland to Heppell this week? you just move the donut from RD13 to RD 12
You'll cop 2 donuts this RD (if everyone plays)

After RD 11
1) downgrade someone like Morris to S.Shaw for 140k-ish profit
2) Ellis should be over 200k after RD11 so you could look at Ellis to Darley for 60k-ish profit (i know its fuk all but it gets rid of a donut in RD13)
3)A.Hall should be 240k-ish after the week. You could trade him to Haynes if named for 90-100k-ish profit
Total in bank could then be roughly 370-380k.
You'll cop 3 donuts this RD (if everyone plays)

After RD 12
Swan is now at 590k with a BE of 148. Anything under 130 he'll drop 10k-ish+.
1) Horse to Swan  ;D  = -280k-ish
0 donuts this RD (again if everyone plays)
and 100k in the bank

Allllllot of IFS there but its the best way to get Swan and minimizing donuts i could think of.
Orrrr you could just go Scotland to Sam Shaw this RD and hope he plays after the byes
Orrrrrrr instead of getting rid of Ellis next week you can get rid of Spurr for next to no profit. Then get rid of Ellis after RD 12. You'd still be able to afford Swan but get rid of another donut from RD12.

Still need to think things over though.
