Dont stress too much about Dal breaking his hand. It's very very early in preseason and he can still get the km's into his legs. In the coming weeks he can get back to the ball handling, but right now what these established players need this time of the year is just km's in the legs which a broken hand won't prevent. Don't write him off because of this. The season is still 4 months away!

OK so in my hire a DT Detective thread I just did a piece on NDS, not much reseasrch involved becaue everyone on earth knows he is a gun a DT gun an AFL gun and any other type of gun that there is.

The research thread isnt so much for discussion ut i feel this champion and as i have seen so far totally unpicked player requires some discussion especially given the return of Hayes and the potential impact on NDS that will have for better or for worse.

So here are a few stats on NDS you may have overlooked.

2010    21    103.0
2011    22    103.6

Ok SO!!! lets just take away the 6 shockers he had and he would have averaged about 116.8.

And lets look at round 13 to 22. played 9 games , scored 9 tons in a row, including a 120, a 133, a 134, a 140, a 154. OMG!!

Ok so he broke his fingers late last year but htey should be sweet by March and they didnt stop him keeping fit??

Now, please comment on a few things,

1. NDS he is a superstar right, so why not in your DT?
2. Hayes? how will his potential return effect NDS?
3. What do you predict for NDS in 2012?
4. Are you going to start or upgrade to NDS? or not for you?
5. are you just worried about his broken fingers (that should be fine by round 1)

1. He shares the bye with DT relevant guns Montagna, Hayes and Gablett.

2. I think it will only help him. Another strong player into the midfield will allow NDS to float to the half back flank and rack 'em up!

3. Another strong year. Average of 111.63 with consistency being his main asset along with the ability to go BIG!!

4. Hmmmm. Toughie. Would love to start him to be honest. Can't remove Swan, Gazz, Rocky/Thommo or Barlow really. Upgrade target if Pendles or Boyd are out of reach/not scoring well/injured/

elephants

Oh and to answer the edit.
5. No. His fingers will have recovered by round 1.

Presto

NDS is without a doubt a gun, but there are too many other mids just as good. NDS just does not fit in my ideal team

1. NDS he is a superstar right, so why not in your DT?
Because with Swan, Mitchell, Thomson, Barlow and Hayes, he does not fit in my team.

2. Hayes? how will his potential return effect NDS?
Because with Hayes and Mitchell I dont need another round 13 bye.

3. What do you predict for NDS in 2012?
anywhere betwwen 90 and 100

4. Are you going to start or upgrade to NDS? or not for you?
If Lenny does not come up to my expectation, I might upgrade him to NDS or to another Mid gun.

5. are you just worried about his broken fingers (that should be fine by round 1)
Irrelevant, I am more worried that he might get back to the disinterested player that he was between round 5 and 9 last year.

Peter

Until you know St Kilda game plan, hard to put in at start - started in backline last season and scores only jumped when moved back to mkidfield

Windigo

Other players should be picked ahead of him right now.

Scrads

Gun player, Id hardly say he will 'go back to being disinterested' especially after polling so well in the Charlie.

Gooner

1. NDS he is a superstar right, so why not in your DT?
He's a SC specialist and there are better options for DT.

2. Hayes? how will his potential return effect NDS?
It's uncertain, but I imagine that it will impact his scoring a little.  However, it could be completely outweighed by the effect of a new coach.

3. What do you predict for NDS in 2012?
Another good solid season as usual, but at this stage, he's more of an upgrade target.

4. Are you going to start or upgrade to NDS? or not for you?
I will upgrade if he's available at the right price when I'm looking to upgrade, but it's likely to only be for SC rather than DT.

5. are you just worried about his broken fingers (that should be fine by round 1)
A little concerned, but given that pre-season is all about running that shouldn't prevent him from having close to a full pre-season.

elephants

Yeah looking at numbers he's an SC gun so is more likely to cop attention from tagggers. Better off looking at Montagna or Hayes who are both also at juicy prices...

hardnut

1. Will deliver more of the same so no "value" in picking in starting team

2. May actually reduce impact as NDS really got involved in the hard stuff last year as there was nobody else to do it. Really not sure

3. Another 105 avg, has always had the ability to score 70's semi-frequently along with 130+. Had him for two years so I should know.

4. Would consider an upgrade as appropriate but would consider it unlikely due to the aforementioned 70's

5. None issue

-edited for stats-

Nick is a gun, however he is big scoring and also low scoring gun, 2009/2010/2011 all similar type of stats. (some low 40s there..) STD 25.9 over season.

Not a consistent scorer like Rock, Priddis, Pendles, Mitchell, Murphy & Judd (in DT) etc, who all have a low Standard Deviation(18-20), he's in the likes of Swan (STD 23...yeah just), GAJ(STD 33), Thompson(STD 25), & Selwood(STD 32 *injury)

Will pull out the big scores and smash your opponents, though can pull out those low 50-60s which will burn you.

Type of player that your DT opposition dreads, will he smash it? or won't he?...the type of dread as they see your match up and worry.

Always good to have a balance between these type of high/low guns and consistent guns.

Also Hayes out last year so his aging(28...hmm nah not really) wasn't apparent as he was able to get more ball.

Will win you games and could lose you games, average out over the season will mass you points, though might hurt your match ups, check his scores against opposition when you have big matches, or run homes.

-Statistics are like a lamp post for a drunk man, good to lean on but they don't really illuminate anything-
