Backs: Looks good, don't know a whole lot about the two rookies but a lot of teams i've seen have had Ellis in there. Can't fault the premiums. Only thing i can pick is perhaps you've spent a little too much at this end with having 5 players valued at 450K+. Maybe downgrade one of the five and inject the extra cash elsewhere?

Mids: Swan, Muprhy & Selwood can't fault, all guns. Rookies> i won't comment as they'll definitely change between now and Round 1.

Rucks: The Burger, nice choice. He looks perfectly priced after last season. McEvoy, i don't rate this bloke but he showed me up with his SC in 2011. Just personal choice i couldn't have him in my side. I'd prefer Burger-Sandi/Cox/Mummy/Goldstein combo.

Fwds: The first six look Micky Mouse, not sure on T.Walsh. For the extra cash i'd go with Porplyzia myself.

Very good team pieman, i quite like it. Plenty to work with there.

Reasonably solid team

Think you have gone a bit heavy in defence also so maybe look at downgrading one and upgarding to a medium price mid if cash allows.

Your ruck combo same as mine - I like McEvoy as ruck especially if he can maintain last years form It is a set and forget combo barring injuries as you have bye coverage as well.

Overall at this stage 8.5/10 and good team.

Please feel free to rate my team of 27 December

appreciate the feedback guys.

I have been seriously considering taking the plunge on Giles as 2nd ruck, ala Smith of last year. It is asking for trouble doing this but the potential benefits of taking this calculated risk are huge. I  also feel that in Stephenson and Rowe there is particularly strong rookie cover for Giles which could soften the blow should he not perform to an acceptable average. Here is a team I constructed using this extra cash freed up by this tactic.

B: Goddard, Deledio, Enright, Johncock, Heppell, Mohr, Morris (Wilkes, Blee)

C: Ablett, Murphy, Selwood Stevens Horsely Shiel (Kavanagh, McDonald)

R: Leuenberger, Giles (Stephenson, Rowe)

F: Franklin, Chapman, Martin, Zaharakis, N Riewoldt, J Brown, Saad (Walsh, Zorko)

Do you rate this side superior to my first attempt? Tear it to pieces please.

I think you've spent too much on the forward line. I'm not too keen on Giles as the 2nd ruck so you could downgrade Riewoldt to a rookie and then upgrade Giles? Otherwise you've made some great selections throughout the team.

Yeah it does look bottom heavy doesn't it? I am really in 2 minds about risking it with Giles, given I got burnt starting Warnock in '10 when he got dropped in r4 or 5 before he could appreciate in value, but then Smith was a superb option as R2 last year. If Brogan did a knee right now I would have my heart set on this move. The  riskis huge but so is the gain. IMO the 2nd side is much stronger, the only pitfall is Giles standing up and averaging 70ish for 6-8 weeks or so. Or Rowe or Stepehenson, doesn't matter who does, as long as one of them does :). This dilemma will dominate my pre-season thinking, along with the largely untested rookies of course.

My suggestion would be to get more DPP happening. As far as I can tell you have some players with DPP but havent got any DPPers in corresponding positions to do the switching.

Luke Brown and Sam Docherty are DEF/MID you could consider

And you also have Chapman, Martin, Zaha and Zorko as MID/FWD but they are all in your F line. You would need at least one on your C line.

it would mean you would need to sacrifice some spots on your C line though...

pieman

Yeah I know, good point you make. I am going with the philosophy of best available and the way it pans out I don't have a C/F in the middle or a B/C in the middle. I am trying to not worry about this and the bye issue too much, having one eye on it but not letting it govern who I select in the starting squad. Trading will have to be geared with that in mind closer to r11 obviously.

Ringo

I think you are one prem mid short.  Scoring is usually done in mids and playing a 3/3 mid may be risky.
Maybe look at Downgrading Heppell to a mid like Grima or Malceski and Brown or Riewoldt to a rookie and use cash to get an extra premium mid.

Also for flexibility look at Rookies who can slot into your mids with a DPP eg Luke Brown B/C and Preiffer C/F.  This will give you the opportunity to move players and save trades eraly.

pieman

Cheers Ringo, appreciate the input. Problem is I don't really rate Pfeiffer and Brown.....not sure about his job security or his scoring potential. Definitely will have my eyes on him in the NAB. Of the 5 premium defenders I am least convinced about Enright. Might look to take your advice, with Enright rather than Heppell, should either of those two rookies you named impress me.
